i-Pod question (Backup)

I think I have most of the normal stiff figured out now.
The one question I have that I can find the answer to is:
How can I back it up. Or how do I take the songs off of my unit and put them onto another one of MY computers for safe keeping?

Did they not give it this feature thinking people would share their songs or what?

The way I did it was I setup my iPod so it shows up as a drive letter under Explorer. Make sure you are viewing hidden files and just copy the music to a different drive.
