today I was out having a good time on the road using my new road tires they are great after about 2 tanks she died so I tried to restart and it sounded raspy I checked the plug and it looked fine and replaced it anyway. I tried to crank it again and it sounded like it wanted to but it was kind of a raspy noise with smoke coming out exhaust and a little from glow plug area. So I removed the cooling head and I found a small piece of metal on top of piston. I pulled the piston sleeve out and looked underneath it and the piston was broken in 2 areas. the walls on engine block have scratches on both sides.


I have always properly maintained my rc car, what gives? I received my rc on feb 22 this year and here we are april 20th and its dead. I called traxxas and they told me to mail it in and they will evaluate it and let me know. They do things on a case by case basis. My lhs told me that this engine was not meant to be driven at full throttle often. Is this true? I have driven it at full throttle many of times is this harmful?


I use trinity 25% fuel
Hobbico after run oil after every run, 3 drops in carb and I turn engine over.

Has anyone had any luck with traxxas replacing anything?:OMG:
 
i do believe that you should put some after run oil in the glow plug hole too along with the carb hole.
 
Ok first of all Traxxas is very good about replacing engines.....they replaced my 3.3 after I burned it up a few weeks of owning it.

Most lily you were a bit lean....what were your temps? Did the Traxxas person ask you a bunch of these type questions?

After I got my rebuilt engine back the sheet that came with it said I had run the truck too lean....now I did not think so at the time ....but they replaced it anyway.

I now use a different break in method (Heat Cycle do a search here)

And I have not any trouble with the returned 3.3 ....in fact I am building a new truck around it just now. I also run a bit on the rich side just to be safe and to stretch out my engines life.

So send it in ....most likely you will get it returned ...rebuilt and ready to break n again. At the very least they will let you do an exchange for a nominal fee.

They didnt ask me any questions they just said to write a letter include engine and proof of purchase. Case by case basis. last month I very well may have been running to lean I was popping plugs like crazy they would las t 1 hour or two. my temps stay about 220-235
 
Traxxas Customer Support is terrific.
As TalonOne mentioned, running a little richer will insure on average longer life and after oil in carb AND piston top keep piston/sleeve lubed between runs.
Traxxas engines are very robust and if the engine prematurely dies, Traxxas will evaluate and notify you of the problem which for me has helped me better tune engines.
 
My 3.3 tends to run normally around 270 degrees. From everything I've read on it this is a normal temp on the Revo.
 
Its been a week and half and I havent heard anything from traxxas. What is the turn around time before they get back to you? Anybody know
 
It always depends on the situation.


A new development here, Traxxas owners. The other day, I went to my new LHS for some small parts and got to talking to the guy that runs the RC area.

according to this guy (he may be completely wrong) If you happen to choose a different Nitro fuel that is recommended in the Manual, Traxxas fuel and you have a problem with your engine, they have every right to say they can do nothing.

Apparently they have a way (probably a simple one) of telling what fuel was used in a mill and if you use something other than they recommend for your Traxxas engine it may void whatever warranties it may have.


Just passing along what this guy told me here, don't think that it is for sure a truth.
 
I just got it back today. They said my conn rod failed. They basicaly rebuilt the engine. All I paid for was initial shipping. Now I have to break it in all over again. Are there any components I should grease as I put everything back together (spur gear ) or anything?
 
thnx wrench I hope I wont have probs like this anymore I'm glad traxxas took care of me
