HI! My Name is Junior from Mission in deep South Texas. I live about an hour away from South Padre Island. Anyway, I'm glad to have joined RCNitro Talk. I need some input about wheels. I'm fairly new to this hobby and I'd like to know that if I were to put 6.5" Hot Bodies Wheels on my TRX 2.5 T-Maxx would it overheat my engine and slow down the truck and if so, what can I do to fix these problems. Thanks! :classic:

1st off, welcome to the forum Junior. Secondly, substituting the larger tires obviously will add rotational mass thus slowing the vehicle down a bit at a given throttle position. I don't think it'll do anything to the engine temp though, it'll just have to work a little harder.

It will be slower to take off, but faster top end. If you do a lot of grass running, or rock crawling, you will have a temp increase. You will also wear out your clutch shoes faster. If you run mostly on a track or asphalt, you'll enjoy the higher speed without a problem.

Hey Junior!! I'm presently stationed In Okinawa Japan, but in December I'll be stationed In Corpus. My In-Laws live in Rio Hondo, and so I'll be there on leave. Can't wait to get back to the states. Any good tracks down there, how about the hobby shops?? Any good ones?? Maybe we can hook up when I get back!!

Hey Woody!! It's great to hear that you have connections down here! There's two hobby shops in McAllen, O'Neals Hobby Shop and Toyz for Big Boyz. I've been to both and they are pretty good. I've heard that there is a track in Harlingen which is just a couple miles from Rio Hondo. I've been wanting to go myself. I'm about 40 minutes away from there and they race every other Saturday. Maybe we can meet there and then eat at my wife's, aunt's Mexican Restaraunt called Los Asados. It's one of the most popular restaurants in that area. Just ask your in-laws. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.:)

oh get a room guys your making me sick!!!just kidding hey junior welcome to the club, them tires will make your engine work harder and with that your temps will run hotter..stick with the smaller tires your will be quicker,i put a set of 40 sereis proline with big joes i think I'm going to a smaller tire just for the fact that i know its probably doing damage to my diffs, trans, clutches ,etc due to the rotational mass

Hey Junior,
Thanks for replying!! Los Asados, my wife knows of the place, and says that we have eaten there. Must be a good Taqueria!! Damn, making me hungry also as I speak! I have'nt had Mexican food in 3 years! Other than what my wife cooks. I have to always beg her for tamales. She makes them about every 3 months or so. Anyway, it would be great if we can hook up. I started this hobby since being stationed in Japan, so I have never been to a good hobby shop! Well, let me get back to the subject of your question, which I never answered in my first message. A few things you need to know about those tires. They are huge!! Low profile tires, so there not like the Jumbo Kongs. Which suck for Monster Trucks anyway. I suggest a few things, since you are going to put them on a T-Maxx you will have to upgrade the steering servo. The stock one will not handle those large tires. You will lose grunt on the bottom end, so I also suggest going with a 16 or 17 tooth clutch bell. If you are using a stock chassis, they look kind of funny because the tires are to close to each other. I put them on my truck just to see what they would look like (I have a supermaxx chassis, which is extended) and they just looked to big. They have a size right down from those 6.5", which are the original size of the Savage. If you are looking for a good size, I would go for the Savage size. They are a size up from the T-Maxx. I hope this help you out. PM me, and I'll give you my email!
