As some of you know I am buying grgbulldog's Savage. I mailed out the first of 2 money orders on Friday CERTIFIED mail through the USPS. I just checked the site to check the tracking, hoping that he would have it today sometime, and there is NO record of it even being shipped! Called the post master and talked to her and she claims they are doin all they can to locate the shipping info and claims that just becuase it's not in the system, it doesn't mean it hasnt been sent. Ummm, isnt that the whole point of spending the extra $5 on certified mail? To make sure it's delivered properly and so you can tack your package and have peace of mind knowing where it is? I swore years ago when this happened before that I'd never do it again, guess I should have stuck to my decition and just sent a money gram. I did however make it VERY clear to her that if I dont have either confirmation from grgbulldog that he got it, or some kind of tracking by Wed, I will be returning and requesting a FULL refund. I guess all there is to do now is sit by the phone and wait. UGH!!!!

I've noticed the USPS 'tracking service' is severely lacking in all aspects. I'm not sure about certified mail, I thought that was only for confirmation of receipt, but like I said I'm not familiar with all their services, I try to avoid using them. I'll call my postmaster and yell at them too, tell them to get that damn Savage delivered!! LOL

Well can't get it delivered for another 2 weeks yet since I still owe him a 2nd payment. But it's the principle of the matter ya know? We decided not to go through paypal to save on fee's because I'm budgeted. In general, it's just a major pain in the @$$ only due to the fact of not knowing. Bad enough I'll be pacing the floor when I know it's his turn to ship, I'm actually quite stoked about getting this rig. I can't even touch a used Savy around here because they are few and far between. That and the fact that when someone here does sell one, it's usually no less than $350.

1: If you are shipping USPS, ship Priority
2: Never ship USPS if you want real tracking. UPS is the only way to go really.

just my opinion

Yeah I'll second this, two items I shipped out with the usps two weeks ago are MIA, NEVER using the post office again

Coach I havent forgot about you, just a little delayed with this trip atm. Crossing my fingers that this check coming looks better since I won't have so much time off. I love the time away, but man does it hurt the wallet, lol.

I agree with that. I'll pay a couple extra bucks if they let me choose UPS or FedEx.

I agree.

With USPS, their tracking mainly is more of a delivery confirmation. Not much information until it is actually delivered.

FedEx has always beat UPS hands down for me :D Haven't tried DHL.

DHL has always delivered a day sooner than their tracking information said for me. When I got those tires from Woodie (which are still holding up awesome!! Thanks Woodie!), they got here a day earlier than I expected.

The only way I would use USPS is if I sent a money order, because that would make fraud a federal case.

it is a money order, one of thiers to boot.

yup, did that when I bought a laptop harddrive about 5 years ago. The guy sent me a drive that was very poorly packaged (picture a poptart in a box that would hold clown shoes, with barely any packing peanuts around it). It lasted 30 days. I sent it back, he sent one that didn't survive formatting. At that point, he didn't want to play ball. I reminded him that failing to hold up to his warranty, not to mention the poor packaging, could amount to federal postal fraud (even if it was over the internet).... The next day, I get an email with a tracking number. That harddrive was packaged in a large box, in 2 feet of foam each way around it, coupled with packing peanuts. To the best of my knowledge, it's still working to this day. I sold the laptop (Thinkpad 600E) about.... what was it, 3 years ago or so.

It's amazing how well that little leverage works sometimes.

Well it arrived today, thank god! Never doing that again though, I can't believe there was NO tracking until it was finally delivered. On another note, it made it from Ohio to GA in 3 days flat, not too bad.

Yeah you just can't get upset if it doesn't show up in tracking. I probably ship 10 packages a week, about 7 of them are usually USPS, and maybe one a month ever just doesn't show up. I have to say though, I haven't mailed anything yet through the USPS that didn't arrive at its destination. If it's something I need to track, I use UPS, but that isn't very often. Usually I just use delivery confirmation feature so that I can prove that the money order or the package was delivered. UPS has better tracking, but I have to say that it's often wrong about the projected day of delivery, so I learned a long time ago to send the package and let it run its course. However, I handle as much of the financial stuff as I can through paypal, since I usually buy from people that I already know and trust.

The same thing happened to me about certified mail. i am stationed on Kadena and sent a payment by certified mail. They said that since it was mailed overseas that they can't track the payment. I was pretty upset. How can they offer certified mail overseas but not track it? Never got an answer i wanted to hear.

UPS does have a habit of reusing tracking numbers. 99% of the time when they do, the previous tracking and delivery information is still shown.

Exactly, that's why I've learned that there's no use getting all worked up if there's no tracking information, and if there is any, I don't put very much stock in it being accurate.
