today just freakin sucks man. I snapped a tranny output on my ax-10 and so i went outside to play with the TC5 to burn off some steam. I am out drifting it and racng around and then it just stops and smoke starts pouring out of the car. I run over to it and pull out the lipo immediately. Apparently the esc got so hot that the wires desoldered themselves and thats why it shut off. the lipo feels swollen. and it kinda feels like there is air pressure under the skin of the lipo. It wasn't smokin hot but it was warm and the wires were hotter than normal. The GTB is shot. i may call novak and see if they can do anything but i doubt it. I'm not sure what happened. We were outside for around 20 minutes and then bam. it was over with. pics in a few minutes

That sucks man.

This past weekend a guy was racing and his GTB caught fire. I am not sure what type of battery he was running. I do know he was running a fan on his esc.

If you think your pack is swollen, it probably is and you should immediately go through the process of disposing of it properly.

In a "normal" situation, how hot should your ESC get? All of my ESC's are GTB's except for one. I have never had any problems, should there be something I need to be paying attention to on the ESC specifically? I usually just monitor motor temps.

Damn Flm... that sucks. That is no cheap ESC.

i talked to jason at maxamps and he said i should be fine. to just charge it and watch it. Its not visually swollen, just felt weird but it could have been the heat. its nice and cool now and looks fine

I wasn’t able to witness the smoking esc as it was happening since I was on the drivers stand. If it was a heat, I would have stopped and roasted a marshmallow over his car. :green-grin:

I have never had a problem with heat on mine. I run the Novak GTB Spread Spectrum ESC’s. I also have never run longer than 6 minutes at one time.

battery seems to be fine. I sent the gtb back to novak today. (along with charlies mamba. sorry it took so long man)

i am selling the tc5 for next to nothing and i am going to focus on the esavage and crawler
