I suck at tuning. I've tried and failed many times, but I need to learn how.

I alway get stuck at a point where it wont idle, but when I give it some gas it roars at what appears to be full throttle. When I break it dies.

Any ideas?

Sounds like you have your throttle linkage out of whack. When you apply the brakes the carb slide should not move. The GRP's run best with O.S. P4 hot plugs and 30% nitro.

You are correct!!!

my throttle was not 100 closed when there was no throttle.

I'm going to tune it today.

Pressure test your fuel tank, it may be leaking. GRP's are super easy to tune.

Just don't move the needles in big increments. The GRP carb is much more sensitive than most other carbs.

Also O.S plugs have a slightly different taper than GRP plugs. So if you go to O.S plugs, stay with them. If you go back to GRP plugs you will find them not sealing properly.

All I use is GRP #5 turbo plugs in mine.

Another issue - factory settings

I found grp factory setting to be confusing. It says .045 in from flush. Well, I bought a caliper and I am now able to accurately set my screws to factory default, which provides a good starting point.

I'll let you all know how it goes. Thanks for everything.

They have to be that accurate since the needles are just that sensitive. In stead of hours, think nudges. :)

I removed my linkage to the carb and pushed the carb in. It started eight up and idled for awhile.

Was that just luck?
