Ok I've had about 5-6 tanks if that through this 8port engine. Once already has the pull start broken, that was replaced with yet another pull start now I've ran 2-3 more tanks since the new pull start has been installed and now the string won't go back in the pull start assembly. There enough in there I can still start the engine, but I have to wrap the foot long string around the shock towers.

What better solutions are out there to rid myself of the problems of the 8port pull start? Does anyone sell a better pull start for the 8port, I'd rather not goto a roto start.

ps. anyone have a model number for the one way bearing?

I'm gonna assume something right off the bat, you don't pull it to the point that it runs out of string. I used to run the Hyper 8 in my Savage, but it's now in my Lightning, and I never had any problem with the PS. Sky broke the spring when I was down bashing w/ him and EP, and I think he said he broke the string before that. I'm pretty sure the 1 way is actually inside the back plate and is part of the fan turbo unit that interfaces with the crank. Is your 1 way slipping when ya pull on it? If not, then it's probably not the 1 way. Sounds more like there's oil and crud in the spool area of the PS, or the spring has a bunch of oil and crud on it. Either way, I'd clean out the PS first, then if that doesn't work I'd look into another PS. But the Hyper 8 has a funnt bolt pattern for the PS, and I don't know of any aftermarket PS's that'll work (and it would take some modifications to make the roto work).

Hope ya get it worked out,
Whitt...

Yeah the pull start hasn't been over pulled. In fact I usually don't have to pull very far at all to get this started right up.

Chris broke my first pull start at the summer bash (he just didn't want me to show him up), he replaced it when I was in Cali, and I get it back home run it one tank and now the string is acting up.

That is odd. Have you tried taking it off, checking for a warp in the PS case and put it back on? Sounds like it's binding.

Mental note: Never let Chris start my engines. Drive them, maybe.

I have broken and repaired the spring and the string in my PS. Did that in the field a couple of times. It takes a little time, but it can be done. If the string tries to retract at all, then the spring is probably still in tact. I would take the PS off and give it a look.

Regardless, I would recommend picking up a spare. When I repair my pull starts, it is nice to have a new one on hand just in case. Why? No urgency to repair the sucker in the field (learned that during my bash with Pirata and Error). Just grab the new one and go...

:OT: sorry this is kinda off topic, but since were talkin about the hyper 8 port, i was thinkin of gettin one and ill have the money in about 2 weeks. woodie, how do ytou like the 8 port? does it have a lot of power and can it go pretty fast? right now i havethe stock 21 bb. i would like something faster. thanks

The pull start on my hyper 21 started acting up last week, doing the same things. I put on a new PS one day after the string broke, and I started having trouble right away. It turns out I was wiping the oil off the starter shaft and putting it back in, causing it to drag and unwind the string. I got it to behave by squirting a couple drops of oil in the bearing before sticking the shaft back in. Sounds erotic, huh?

Yes Savager21, it has great power, I love it.
