Well, looks like its go time! We are already feeling the effects of Frances, high wind gusts, and a lot of rain, and this is just the beginning. We are already under a mandatory enforced curfew since 6 am this morning, you can not be out on the streets for any reason. All stores are closed, no gas at all is available, or will be available until some time after the storm. I don't know how long I will have power, since it has only been band-aided back together after Charlie. I'll keep ya all posted as long as I can...

Aww man Stay safe and may god bless all of you down there.

God speed and talk to you soon.

Jon

Latest update:

They have temporarily lifted the curfew. The first bands have passed through with about 40-50mph gusts, and a buttload of rain. Were now between bands, fortunately we still have power, but surrounding areas near me are already losing power and the brunt of the storm will not hit here until aprox. midnight tonight. The eyewall is starting to become more defined, and tighten back up, which is not good news. Here is the latest image, courtesy of NOAA.

How are the winds now? The weather person on CNN says that It could get alot worse because its doing the same thing that Andrew did. Man I hope not I have relatives in Daytona, West Palm Beach, and Hobe Sound. Hope it dies down alot!

The winds are starting to really pick up again, looks like we may be in for the next outer band really soon. The strongest part of the storm won't be to me until about midnight. The storm won't even make landfall until later this evening. The biggest problem is it is only moving 5 miles per hour, so the length of time we will have high winds and torrential rain could be 24 or more hours. Charlie ripped through fast, the severe weather only lasted about 5 hours.

I don't think I could go through stuff like that, I'll stick to the blizzards. Good luck man.

hope everyone makes it through the storm safe and i pray for the best for you guys down in florida I've got lots of relatives there also.

Hey Joe! Well,, the winds are now starting here as well,we are just starting our first band gusts and its gonna get worse by tonight, tomorrow I am guessing we will both be pounded all day with wind and rain, oh man this sucks,,I just went out this morning and got some last minute stuff, I did manage to get to hooters and get some wings, no way am I sitting inside while the world blows by without my hooters wings! Talked to my sister about an hour ago, she is near Lauderdale, she managed to tell me that her trees are ripped out and down the street some where, then I heard a crack on the phone and lost her, she called back on her cell to say she was fine but scared shitless, her power is now out and the winds were so intense I could barely hear her, man!! thats some freaky poop! Hope all is well by you, hang on tight! Carl

You hang on too NM, hopefully it will lose its punch by the time it gets to you. My brother is in Titusville, I heard from him a few hours ago but have not heard from since then. He had already lost power and said it was getting real ugly there, and the eye is still quite a way off shore. Heres the latest image from NOAA, you can clearly see the eye is redefining itself, its still not moving, and appears to be strengthening. They are saying it could very well be back to a cat 3 by the time the eyes finally does make landfall.

They have also just reinstated the curfew here too.

Zandor, yeah, luckily I am still here. Everything is still about the same here. Bands of wind and rain, a few high gusts, nothing major yet, thankfully!

how long have you been down there? and how many of these things have you been through? I whould be a nervous MF right about now.Well please keep us up to date when you can. Be safe.

I lived in South Florida from 1969 until 1997. Then I moved to NC in 97, then back to Central Florida last year. I went through Andrew, Charlie (three weeks ago), David, Freddie, and more other smaller ones than I can even remember and now Frances. I was in one in NY when I was very young, and one in NC too.

Heres the latest pic from NOAA. The eye is now making landfall.

Update:

Well it's really starting to rock and roll here now! The eye is still a long way off but the winds here have picked up dramatically! I can now hear poop hitting my roof, tree branches are already coming down, the boats tied up in the canal out back are getting a thrashing, the water level is coming up, my garage door is shaking pretty good already. I honestly don't think I will have power much longer, but thankfully I still do. Hope you are doing ok Carl (NM) on your side. I saw on the news a lot of your area has already lost power.

In this recent radar image, you can see the stronger bands in central Florida, the next few hours (quite a few) are going to be pretty bad.

Dam hold on bro.Iam watching the news and all i can say is i feel for you my man.I just can't imagin being there and seeing this. Can you run out side and take a pic :jk: and iam really kidding don't do that

man!! I gotta tell ya,, timing is so weird, I just stopped back to read your post, and thats when I started hearing poop hitting my roof, wind gusts have really picked up here now too, I was out on my balcony a little while ago and it wasn't like it is now, starting to get some decent size lightning but we still have power.I think sometime after midnight is when its gonna get hairy for us, Glad and thankful for us that its just a cat2, hopefully it will die over land tonight and we will just sleep through it, but I havnt slept that good in a long time, Take care, check back in a while if I can!
