Hey everyone I was just wondering which brand of Rc cars you prefer. HPI or Traxxas? I know they make so many different types of cars and trucks but i was just wondering in more general terms. Which one do you believe is better quailty (minus upgrades) for the everyday man/money. (Not just track racer) I would also like to know why. Thanks! :)

Both make good quality rigs. I prefer Traxxas personally. They tend to have a better bang for the buck, IMO.

i have had only traxxas. 3 trucks t-max, only mild mods. 2 jatos one stock one very modded. they are good. but which one does your RC shop support the best, that is the big Q.

I've had a traxxas revo and currently own a tmaxx that has been highly upgraded with most everything i can think to upgrade including a picco engine. Also i own a HPI trophy buggy with a big block engine. As far as which do i prefer i will have to say of the two its gonna be hpi. Mainly because of the quality of parts it comes with stock vs. traxxas having to be upgraded to the gill to hold up under bashing. I love the tmaxx now but only because its been modified from stock. The hpi did have an issue with the engine within 1/4 gallon of fuel but they warrantied it and for what its worth they are actually sending me the 4.6 to replace the 3.5 that came with it. I'm the part time tech at my lhs and every rig i have to work on happens to be traxxas tmaxx and jatos. I've only had a couple of hpi rigs come in and they were both the rs4 and both were simply to have new engines mounted from wearing the stockers out. As far as price i believe that HPI makes a better quality rig for the money. I can't say anything bad about the Revo because i beat the hell out of mine and had minimal repairs to do. But it also had rpm uppers and lowers for better durability. Even with upgrades and mods I'm still constantly fixing or replacing something on the tmaxx everytime i run it. Take all this lightly because its just my experience and opinion. Many will say that they have had better luck with traxxas and i do not mean to nor want to be the cause of a thread war. The topic of savage vs. tmaxx will start one everytime. My next purchase will be a Losi for sure.

both brands are very good I own 2 Traxxas rig's & two HPI rig's also thinking of getting a 1/8th HPI buggy Vorza.. No complaints with both brands

i have 4 traxxas vehicles stampede rustler revo and tmaxx, you can do alot of upgrades to them and all four are fun bashers but also can be pretty good on the track...definately traxxas

Check your LHS and see which of the two manufactures parts their carry. Both HPI and Traxxas both make great vehicles. If you LHS carries one manufacture over another then I'd go that route, if it's even then go with the one you think looks the best :D

I have had both brands 2 T-MAXXes and a Revo. Loved them, then I bought a used Savage X just to see what it was all about. Long story short, I no longer own anything made by Traxxas. Better quality, better durability, and way stronger in stock form than the T-MAXX or Revo and easier to work on. HPI all the way in my opinion.

I like my Savage but if I had to own only one truck it would be my Revo. The Savage is built a lot stronger than the Revo but I don't break parts so that's not a problem and the Revo will run circles around the Savage. HPI needs to have more engine options than what they have. I have not yet had a HPI engine that I liked. (That's probably why everyone gets rid of them for a different one, just like I did.) All of my Traxxas engines run excellent.

Id say HPI. I own 3 Savages, RS4, and a Baja from HPI. Also a Revo, E-maxx, Jato, Mini E Revo and formally a Tmaxx from Traxxas.

HPI;s are stronger, better built. Traxxas gets points for out of box speed, looks and being the innovators.

They invented the MT, and started the whole short coarse thing. Now 100mph out of box R/C and the Iphone docking radio, brilliant marketing.

haha awesome guys, I also own one of each. I most recently purchased an HPI product and it has been great. I'm just wondering cause out of the box HPI does seem to be better built, but as far as innovation and speed like many of you talked about,Traxxas is on mark. I guess Ill just stick to both :)

Yep, just get one of everything and come to your own conclusion. You can always get rid of what you don't like. The problem usually is that you want to keep them all. And then your house will look like the local hobby shop.

Traxxas is certainly more popular than HPI. It all depends on your preference, traxxas is mine, simply because they make great RTRs at great prices. Hpi is more for an experienced fan of RC, they make more kits, rolling chassis, and RTRs minus radios and engines motors etc (so you can put your own powerhouse in it to your preference)

hahahahahahah!!!!!! Love it! I think I have 4 cars, 3 buggies, 1 truggy, and 6 or 7 trucks and I spend time on Ebay looking for more. Oh and I have a Kyosho nitro blizzard that I'm about to get out just as soon as it snows. This hobby is great and look at all the fun we have!

My HS Stock's alot of Traxxas RTR's & pretty much the popular Rig's but also carries HPI in limited Rig's but for the most part stocks Savage's & Blitz's & also stocks Associated in select Rig's mainly buggies in this brand... & Axial crawler's my HS tries to keep in stock the Wraith is my HS most popular crawler that sell's out.. Plus alot of part's are @ the ready too for most part in STOCK.. But in my area of eastern PA where I live some part's are hard to get during the spring / summer month's in PA & try to stock up on part's during the winter month's because once the warmer weather hit's everything seem's to fly off the shelf's @ my HS...

I own a tmaxx, savage xl, hpi rs42 and a baja. Hpi is in my opinion is the better brand out of the box. Traxxas is more innovate with the short course introduction and the xo1. Where hpi separates themselves from traxxas is they have a very diverse lineup. They have buggies, truggies and large scale where traxxas does not.

Wow sv250! I thought I was bad with my 13 rc's. I wish I had that workspace of yours too!

As far as this discussion goes, I own multiples of both brands and they all seem to have their pluses and minuses. I seem to gravitate more towards HPI, personally. They seem to hold up to the torment I put them through while bashing. I will say, however, the Traxxas 3.3 is a dream motor to tune. I am not really that good at tuning, but the 3.3 is much more forgiving than any motor I've ever worked with. Just my $.02. :D
