hey guys, I'm really new to the world of nitro stuff, so i was hoping someone could give me some good advice.

so anyway.. my friend its trying to sell his HPI Savage X SS, with everything included. its just over a year old and in a reasonable condition (although there is a bit of damage on the top of the engine, and the shell obviously). he is also including 2.5 liters nitro fuel with it.

is it worth $400 AUD?

am i getting ripped off or is this a deal that i should snatch up asap?

thanks for everyones help :)

is the truck still in stock form or did he upgrade it in anyway? how much fuel did your friend run thru it? we'll need a bit more info before giving you a fair response.

at face value and assuming the truck is still stock, IMO i think 400 is way to high.

I also think $400au is a bit high...

Id be happy with $300-$350 though...

But as said above we do need a little more info...

Thanks for your feedback.
Yes most parts are stock. Some other parts he included are:
- wheelie bar
- this radio system http://www.futaba-rc.com/radios/futk1200.html
- rechargeable batteries and charger for both the transmitter, reciever and glow plug ignighter

If I think of anything else I'll add it, but that is all I remember from the list he said last week. Overall he said he spent around $1050 on it, is that about average?

I'm not sure but he has done aroung 8 litters I'm guessing. Is that a lot?

Thanks

i'll let others chime in hear, but IMO the price is a bit high. while the radio is an upgraded 2.4 radio the other parts in my opinion do not add up the asking price.

okay thanks for your opinion. can i ask one more thing? I'm more interested in nitro buggies than nitro trucks so what decent nitro buggies would you recomment for around the $400 mark? an older hyer 7 or inferno or losi 8ight 1.0? perferably something that wont break in a few months. also how would this compare with the savage? thanks

Unfortunately, nothing compares with the Savage. The Savage, you will bow to. The Savage, you will put on a pedestal, and pray to before you eat, pray to, before you sleep. The Savage, you will take to family events, such as weddings, reunions. The Savage, wears the family heirloom ring for wedding ring.

Ha ha! I gotta get one someday.:) Your on the right track with buggies. Check out Ofna's line as well. They are very stout and quite reasonably priced.

The Hyper 7 is Ofna isnt it..??

Anyway I wld be going for the Hyper 7 with your price range...
My brother in law has one and the only time its broke is when a 1:1 car ran over it..
Even then it cost him $25au for the parts...And about 30min of his time...

@ Death. Check out the Kyosho buggy. i think its the NEO? RC Driver did a feature on it as a good buggy for entry to intermediate drivers. Price wise was around your limit of 400.

Ofna makes a solid line of buggies as well. i had the hyper 7 and loved it but sold it to fund a savage project years ago.

as for how buggies compare to the Savage...they dont. 2 different platforms; buggy VS truck. the Savage is a beast and IMO the best truck out there for a basher. tons of aftermarket support and a few dedicated websites just for it.

hope this helps

thanks for all the advice

wow so let me get this straight.. are there two brands of Hyper 7s? Ofna and Habao?

now i have to decide between purchasing a new buggy or a second hand savage x ss for roughly the same price. if you had to, what would you guys choose?

ill try push the savage to $350, anyone have any agruments i could use to get the price lower?

also one last thing, do 1/8 scale buggies handel well on grass? i know the savage demolishes it ;)

I've never really understood that either but the Team Hoboa Hyper 7 is an Ofna brand buggy..

And its pretty good on grass.. But its hard to compare against my Revo :)

Like Matt said... A new Rig is probably the best idea...
But if you really want the Savage like i know i would then i would just save a little more :)

Okay cool. Thanks for answering all my questions, really cleared things up for me :)

I'll let you guys know if I brought the savage, hyper 7 or similar buggy soon enough :)

A good rule of thumb when buying a used nitro is to include the price of a new engine in the cost. If you're unable to drive a rig especially. Unless there's proof that the engine is new and that the vehicle is in working order, don't trust anybody you don't know. And sometimes, it's not the sellers fault. The truth is, most people don't do enough research, jump into the hobby blind, and end up not knowing what they really have.
