Hey guys, I'm in the market for a nitro monster truck and i wanted to know your opinion of it. I am looking at Traxxas's trucks and I've always been interested in HPI. What are some of the pros and cons to this truck. Whats it like to tune the truck and other things like that. Thanks in advance!

Hey buddy, I really can't give you much help, others might help you more, but I just bought a Savage X about 2 weeks ago, and its AWESOME. I have only ran redcat rc's before but the savage x has alot of power. Pretty easy to tune and alot of fun. On the first weekend after breaking in the motor and getting it tuned I got alittle excited and started doing backflips with it and broke the rear bevel gear and pinion gear, I think I landed it wrong and it was just one of those things, but to fix it parts at the LHS were only about $20, not bad.
I was also undecided at first, it was between a Traxxas, MGT, or the Savage. And after comparing all 3 for about 2 weeks I finally decided on the Savage. And I haven't regreted it yet.
AWESOME truck and alot of fun to bash.
just my 2 cents.

If your main goal is to jump and bash, then a Savage is your truck. If you want to race too, then the Savage will need some work or you should consider another truck.

Really IMO the worst thing out of the box on the Savage is the steering servo. Some complain that it's harder to work on due to everything being closer together but I don't see that as an issue. If the Traxxas truck you're looking at is a T-Maxx, then definately go with the Savage. If it's the Revo, then it's a maybe if you want to race too. It's not as durable as a Savage but it handles better and is reasonably tough.

Wow great feedback! Thank you! Yes I had been thinking about getting the Revo but since I don't plan on doing any racing, the Savage seems like a good choice from what I am hearing! Thank you everyone!

Get the savage! You won't regret it. You can upgrade a savage to handle like any other truck out there or better...Just make sure you practice driving lol. Toughest truck out there period ;)

Sweet! I really want to get something that is tough and can take a beating because I live up in the mountains. I believe that I now have found the truck that I'm looking for!

I took my savage x to the mountains a while back you wont be dissapointed the savage is bad ass !!!

without a doubt go with the savage!!!!! I have two other friends who run Revos they are always crying because their broke down and I'm still running. lol. The Savage is a beast!!!

Haha thank you everyone! I will be ordering mine up soon!

This might be a strange question but, how does it shift gears? Like from first to second. Is it automatic or do you have to do something on the controller or what? how does it work?

It's an automatic centrifugal pawl clutch. A spring loaded arm swings out after the rpms reach a certain point. Pretty violent the way they shift actually.

Sorry for all of the questions! Does it have a reverse gear? Because I noticed that the new Traxxas trucks for some reason dont have reverse, and I was wondering if it was a similar thing with the Savage X.

What is wrong with my choice of vocabulary? Yes I will be buying a savage! Ordering it up as soon as I get my cash in order.

NOT A THANG! But i have to ask my self, " is this guy looking to buy a SAVAGE or is he wishing he bought a SAVAGE"??? nhf :third_place:

no it starts in 2nd and then shifts to first!!!! ever drove a car???

I will be purchasing it very shortly, and before I went ahead and dropped that kind of money, I wanted to learn as much as possible about it from people that have maybe owned it or do own it. It never hurts to know about other peoples experiences and what they think about it.
