hello I'm wondering if anyone can help?
i have just bought a savage x 4.6 from e bay.i have had it running for about 3 minutes and the wheels never turned at all.i am a noob to the nitro scene and havn't got a clue what's wrong the wheels turn and the drive train is fine all the cogs turn as they should the one thing i did notice when i try to start the engine it does not lock like it say's on hpi site when its flooded can anyone help?thank you

Just so we are on the same page.
When you say the wheels have never turned, do you mean to say, that once you get it started, and apply gas, that it does not want to move, and the engine just revs?

OR

That you simply can not get it started for more than three minutes?

both i got it started once then after 3 minutes it died.as for the wheels give it some throttle didnt move an inch

i dont know how old it is as with everthing on e bay its hit and hope

Okay, well here are some videos that might help you out with starting it.

If you flood your engine, i take teh glow plug out, and turn the engine over a few times.

i know how to start the engine properly thats not the problem.
the problem is it wont start even with new a new glow plug i also tested the glow plug before i installed it to make sure its glowing properly the engine is also primmed properly.
like i said before its not the engine I'm worried about its the wheels not turning when i get the engine going thanks

sounds to me you have a problem with your spur gear and clutch gear but i woud check to see if all the drive dog bones are there if they are put the truck on the ground take the body off put your finger on the spur gear and pull the truck backwards if it trys to turn the spur gear then everything from there to the wheels is all right if the spur dosent move check the nut and spring to see if they are loose on the spur gear

Yeah sorry, kinda read into your post too much, and for some reason thought you had flooded it and thats why could not get it running.

Then do what chestercheeto Said.:hehe:

tried what you said all the drive bones turn but the spur gear doesn't not even a little bit the spring and nut are both tight
i also removed the rubber gear cover and all the gears turn.in fact everthing turns when i push it along the floor

you said rubber cover do you mean the one on the side or did take the top off the trans?

what I'm getting at the spur gear has a slipper clutch behind the spur gear alot of time it not adjusted right and slips go to hpi websight and download the manual
(http://www.hpiracing.com/instructions/#Kits)
on page 22 in the middle of the page it show you how it works and how to adjust it make sure all the parts are there from the pin (z260) to the nut (z684)
hope that it if not we will something differnt

down load the manual for a (savage x 4.6 rtr) its under the kits section

the cover from the side.surely if my gearbox is 3 speed like i was told by the seller it should have 3 holes to see the gears through

i know a stock savage x has three holes on the trans but only a two speed
however i dont know what you have
3 speed trans is a great upgrade for any savage
have you found whats wrong with your?

When you rev the engine does the clutch bell move? If not, pull the engine inspect the clutch. You need to read the manual front to back as many times as it takes, watch HPI's tuning vids.
What fuel, plugs and glow ignitor are you using? What is the brand and capacity of your roto battery?
A good quality sub C cell glow ignitor is required. Hot Shot makes the most reliable ignitors IMO. Alkalines don't work, not even D cell size. Rechageable AA slim ignitors are not worth piss either.

i have a savage 25 with the savage x 4.6 upgrade with a 3 speed box installed but the 3 speed box only has 2 holes in the side all other 3 speed boxes i have seen have 3 holes in.I'm sending it to a leading rc dealer to have it completely rebuilt because as I'm new to savages i want it done properly.stripped right down cleaned and all parts fixed.i know you will probably say try it yourself but i dont want to be buying things left right and centre hopeing that it is the right part thanks for all your help especially chestercheeto much respect.i will keep you informed on what the problem is thank you and merry christmas

Having someone else fix it isn't going to help you much the next time it breaks. I'd be pissed if I got charged $100 or so for a $10 part, too. To each their own, though. Best of luck.

found out why it would not go when the engine was running the reverse gear was srtipped thats why it was always neutral.a new reverse gear has been fitted and away we go thanks for the help guys
