My step dad has an old nitro car we're trying to fix, but we have no idea what's going on.
We had to replace the starter bearing and we had to clean the engine because it wasn't turning the engine. We got it to turn and start after soaking the engine in gas and cleaning all of the nitro off of the engine/piston and everything else. Anyways, it turns on for about 10 seconds but when we get it to start, it goes fullspeed then slowly goes out. Can anyone help me with this? I can take pictures if you need, not very expirenced with nitro.

If it has been sitting up for a long time your carb is probably gummed up as well. Pull all your needles out and get a new carb seal kit to replace your orings seals and set all your needles back to factory settings. Which if I'm not mistaken is flush with brass housing on low speed needle and high speed needle and a 1mm gap on the slide. Also here is a link to the best tuning guide available.

Thank you for responding so quickly, It was gumy, but we cleaned all that out. As far as the pins and the carb rings I'm not sure. Ill try all of your suggestions, and ill let you know if i fix it! Thanks again :)

Also be sure you have all freshly charged batteries in truck and radio and both are on when starting truck. Never start it up with dead batteries or switched off. That will also cause it to rev wide open and run away from you. After all cleaned up and you do get it running. One sure fire way of telling if the engine is worn out is it will run fine till it heats up and shuts off and wont start again till it cools down. This means your sleeve and piston are worn and need replacing. But before you do that consider buying a new engine for only a little more. Maybe even a bigger better engine for only $40-$60 more than the cost of rebuilding.

Haven't had any problems with it not starting, but i took out the carb and there was a ripped oring to the engine chamber. Would that be my problem? Because of air getting in?
