hey, my hpi bullet 3.0 with the 2.4ghz radio ranaway for the 4th time. I'm so sick of it and this time it hit a bolder and destroyed my bumper set and caved in the shell. I called hpi and complained and they are sending me a new receiver, a new throttle servo, and a new front end bumper free of charge, love hpi for tht. Any how it seems to happen with crap batteries and its pissing me off. did i have a defective receiver or do i need to invest in rechargeable battery pack? if so what battery pac should i get?

just head to your LHS and whatever they have will work fine, get a peak charge monitor too so you dont ruin a 30 to 50 dollar investment. or you could get a traxxas receiver that has a fail safe programmed into it I believe.

Most definately get a RX pack or better yet get 2 so if one goes dead you can just swap it out & keep running.

Also get a throttle return spring strong enough to pull the servo arm back to close the carb back to idle.

There is not a fail safe made that works if the batteries go flat or the battery plug pulls out.

I dont think he is having problems with them going dead is he? but you should always invest in a NiMH rechargeable pac if you have any amount of money invested in a quality rig like a HPI, traxxas etc. or radio system for that matter. because a crappy battery pac negates your expensive radio system and a good deal of your >400 dollar investment

That's what it sounds like as he says it has a 2.4Tx/Rx in it but he's still using AA alkalines for RX batteries.

++1 On all points. Never run a nitro without a throttle return spring.

thanks for all your help, my truck came with a throttle return spring built in, the issue is the factory messed up and my fail safe, it was set to full throttle instead of full break. I am getting the new parts this week in the mail and will reprogram my fail safe. Also My fail safe was going off because the week AA batteries don't last long and when there half dead the range goes to crap on the receiver/ radio therefore the failsafe kicks in blasting my r/c into a bolder the size of a bathtub lol. I will be sure to invest in a piggy back style lithium pack. Again thanks for the input!

Amen to your fail safe statement! I once crashed and didn't know it damaged my on/off switch. I'd put the car out there and it would loose power and the servos would hold their position and I (we) would have to chase it. Changing to switch fixed it but the fail safe is useless unless you still have power to run it.

I have alot of experence with the BULLET"S I own 2 of them Nitro & Electric
& I myself had ton's of problems with my bullet's... My bashing buddy got an Electric Bullet & couldent get it to bind systems & would go to full 100% break force once throttle was let go... After getting ticked off to the point he was ready to smash the Rig up against his Shed wall he came up to my house "a block away" & said "hear take this Rig as he tossed the Rig to the Ground" in shock I asked what's the problem with it he said it wont come off 100% break & he's had it he doesent want RIG anymore & it's mine......So after messing around with the Rig for 2-3 days & many helpfull call's to HPI... Turned out to be a bad batch of ESC's HPI got from there supply'er & HPI send me another brand new ESC & MOTOR walla Fix'ed Run's like a champ now... MY Nitro had RX problems too & ran away from me 3 times HPI sent me 2 RX's still wasent working so I sent Rig out to HPI turned out the box that houses all the electrical stuff & RX was getting interferance from the running engine causing glitches So HPI put different bushings under the box walla problem fixed now both of my Bullet's are up & running like Champ's & my buddy sorry he gave me his Bullet now LOL....
