I bought one of these and have been messing around with it and the engine will idle and run as normal, when you rev it up it moves very slow. Any ideas what would cause this? I am new to R/C

is the engine new? If so have you broken it in? These things will be like this if that is the case. You need to do the break-in procedure as instructed in the manual. The Piston and sleeve need to be broken in properly.

If not what are the temps you are experiencing when running?

More info is need to help you out.

Yes, more info......such as, when the engine is off, but the radio and Rx are on, can you roll the car freely, or are the brakes putting a load on it?

If your brakes and drivetrain are free, check out your clutch.
Its possible your clutch is slipping under load due to the bell and shoes being glazed.

thanks for all the quick replies but i found it to be the motor was at an angle causing it to not engage the gears all the way.

Since you found it to be the engine being a skew, Check for spur gear damage. You may have eaten away at the gear.
