I have one of the newer Hpi rs4 3's and i wanted to upgrade the engine but didnt know which ones i should be looking at. any help in which ones will give me the best performance for the buck and actually fit the car will be grear.

i mostly will be running streets and parking lots but i still want it to go fast when i do let it rip.

Me and the FRC guys run parking lots alot. So we aim for speed. Do you want a pullstart? Or are you going to get a starter box? I had the O.S. Hyper 15 with a pullstart and a crazynut racing head, I ran that for awhile. It's a good engine, I think it runs for $169.00. I ran it with a boost bottle, when I took out the boost bottle it never ran right. So now I have a RB Concepts C12 turbo and that's a lot of fun. I bought the engine for 153.00, but I bought the turbo button for about 30.00. It runs faster than the O.S. and it's a lighter engine. These are not legal engines for racing but they're fun.

How far are you willing to go? What I mean is that you could get a .12 size engine with a rear exhaust. You're just going to have to spend more money on buying parts if you're going to rear exhaust (i.e. ae down pipe, engine mounts, flywheel, etc.). Well engine mounts and a flywheel is what you're going to need if you get a non pullstart engine.

Don't forget when looking for an engine you need to get one with a threaded shaft. Get a side exhaust if you don't want to run with the hassle of modifying the exhaust.

Some other engines I like for the RS4 3:

RB Concept X12 (rear exhaust, non pullstart)
Mugen MT12 (side exhaust, non pullstart)

I think I'm not at the level yet to have a non pull start engine although i hear they give better performance. as long as i can reach the range of about 60-70 mph ill be fine. i have a tuned side exhaust so i think i wanna stick with that for know.

demoilsf - if u are just looking at parking lot fun , and as u say "not at a level yet for a high performance rear exhaust engine, then i would recommend nothing but OS brand engines. They hold a tune better than anything out there, have great support from the LHS's, are VERY fast, and are reasonably priced. Take a look at the OS .12cv-rx or the OS .15cv-rx, both have a side exhaust and a pull start.

You mentiona 70mph top speed - let me enlighten you on something - people always think that their RC cars go way faster than they actually do. Most high perforance cars, such as the NTC3 and serpent impulse when equipped with a strong engine, such as a mugen or OS will rarely be able to reach 60mph. if you search the web, you will find that most good TC's will cruise around 50-55. It is possible to reach those higher speeds, but not without serious mods to suspension, an extreme engine and VERY tall gearing. What you gain the most with a stronger mill is usualy low end power, and better acceleration through the power band. You will be much happier with a better engine, but unless your previous mill is trash, u will not notice an extreme increase in top end. 10-15 mph would be phenominal. Good Luck, and check out those OS engines

and you say you're just a newbie...woowoo

personally, i'd get a trinity/sirio .12...those own...and legal

but if you just want straight parking lot action no race legal...get a .21 conversion..then smash on everyone

i didnt recommend those choices for the fact that was mentioned regarding a novice skill level. The trinity import engines are quite difficult to tune and keep running for extended periods at idle, if u do not have good rc skills. Also, the big block conversion may be to complicated and offer too much torque to drive the vehicle when the skill level is not there. I am currently running a rossi pixie black in my ntc3, which is imported by trinity - and even i had some difficulty getting it in tune.

dont spam someone else's post, kwong - PM me with questions like that, bro. thanks.

I highly recommend OS engines. I run one in my T-maxx and it most likely will be the engine I replace my HPI Nitro Star 15 with once it expires. If you even think you might want to race, you might want to check with your local track prior to buying a new mill. Most organized races only allow you to use a .12. If there is no chance of racing then don't worry about that, you can go with a .12 or .15. The mills Nitronewbie mentioned are great engines and you would be very happy with either of them.

The other engine no one has mentioned would be the Fantom FR .12 or .15. They have a new carb and abc sleeve, so two past issues with these mills have been corrected. They turn more rpms than the OS engines and might give you a little more top end but you will sacrafice some bottom end, theres always a trade off.

i was looking at the os engines. they exactly like what I'm looking for i think I'm going to go for one of those. thankz for all of the help

OS is a good choice for what you want. As for the Sirio's I heard that they don't last long. The metals they use are thin.
