Does anyone have any idea of what RPM the HPI rotostart device has? I'm using the shaft from one in my cordless drill to attempt to start my Savage and it doesn't seem nearly fast enough. Just going by piston sound it seems to be geared way down compared to my Losi motor which starts just fine with the same drill. FYI my drill has 1450 RPM. Thanks

I have no experience with roto starts, but I believe that seems kinda slow considering the rpms these engines run at. I prefer my pull start cause it just limits the amount of stuff I have to carry.

Yea I think i'm just gonna replace my broken starter box and be done with it. Thanks

Let me know how you get your savage to work with a starter box, I'm pretty sure its not possible.

The vehicle is a 1/8th buggy but the engine has a rotostart backplate on it. I got a new starter box today and the engine fired right up with no issues. I guess that a high speed cordless drill won't work with the HPI style backplate.

A cordless drill does work for starting my Savage XL but you have to have it in reverse not forward. I have a high speed drill that plugs in that works better for initial fire up but once warm the cordless works fine.

Did anyone have an issue with their roto starts just tripping the breaker?
