i was at my hobby shop yesterday (i got home from college 2 days ago) and i was getting my new racing clutch, and genarally just fooling around with them as they checked out my car to see what is up with it and how it is running because i have a rep. of destroying things ... either way... i told him i was going to be throwing in the 2 speed soon (probably today) and a new engine soon after that, and i mentioned that i was going to be running a fantom .15 and he said they were good, but a customer came in and bought one , then came back and it was all mangled for some reason and they ahd to send it back, and i should get the hpi 15 ss, because it is a little bit better and is still just as fast ... what do you guys think about that ?

p.s. this is for my supernitro...

I will tell you anyone who'll listen that Fantom engines are great, and their customer service is second to none. Jeff stands behind their products and their customers. This years model(one with the red head) is better since they redesigned their carbs. I also believe that they will last longer than the HPI. I know that Eddy has like 3 gallons through his and Sky has a couple of gallons through his.

The customer who bought one and it got mangled....There are too many factors to decide if it was the engine or user error. There are a lot of engines that break because of user error, and have nothing to do with the engines.

although I do not have any experience with the fantom - my neighbor has a supernitro, with a nitrostar.15 - and personally i think its a slug with no-go. If skymaxx has a fantom - buy it! he is one of the most knowledgable people I've known. Also, why not take a look at some of the OS .15's? you could never go wrong with an OS

no please,no  - - - - - :sniper:

that is just too cool

there are a lot of versions of the .15 nitro star, he probably has the .15 fe ... I'm talking about the SS , but i think i will go with the Fantom because it is what i wanted to begin with , and is cheaper and better than the 15 ss in my oppinion...

one more question ... i can get the fantom for 170 off of fantoms shopatron site, but my hobby shop has them too , however they charge 200 for it, what do you think i should do about that . buy at the LHS or online ?

supernitro - every hobbyshop in my local area has the same policy - bring in an ad for mailorder, and they will match the price. If your LHS doesn't do this, tell them that you will buy it for 180. which is probably what it will cost mail order after shipping anyway. Plus, you will be supporting your LHS, and what goes around comes around
