I'm a bit confused with the specifications for the 15FE vs the 15ss. I've been reading that the SS is a far superior motor, but the FE is rated at a higher horsepower output; 1.2hp I think. What gives? I've also noticed that SS will rev higher resulting in a widerpowerband per specs, but just can't understand the decrease of .5HP from an engine that's supposed to be "better". Can someone please clarify.

Sorry for the n00b question.

Tia,

Marty

umnn the fe = 0.56hp/29,000rpm
the ss = 0.7hp/33,000rpm

the 1.2 hp your talking about is the hpi t15

they say the t15 is a nice stock engine.
if ya want more power i say try the hpi pro 12R xs with 1.35 hp. i have that one for my self. its very fast. rear exhaust tho

or

hpi 18ss with side exhaust and pullstart @ 1.5 hp.

both great engines

petal2thametal is right, the 1.2 hp engine is the T-15. The fe is only .56 hp but is a very reliable engine. It always starts almost never stalls but just doesn't have the power that many other engines have. I also hear that the .15 SS has a lot of torque and is used almost only for off road, the T-15 is more of an all around decent engine. Also keep in mind these estimates are completely whatever the distributer decides to put up for specs. There are no dynos for nitro engines.

i hade the 15fe engine it was great ,
if you are getting a new engine may i recommed the trx 2.5 rated 50,000 rpm and about 1.5hp i have this one on my hpi rs43.
$119 hobbypeople price.
not much difference in price to the t15 and better, infact i think its cheaper.
:2cents:
if you have an rs4 3 but dont know how to mount it look at my pics in the gallery.
lots of things had to be changed though so its not cheap.

Actually the T-15 is only $79.99, and $119 for the TRX 2.5 is about right but I don't think it can spin 50,000 RPMs.

where did you get that info on the traxxas. if ya look at the traxxas site they say they dont publish a horsepower rating. and the rpm isnt correct. so i think the hp isnt either.

and from what i have heared traxxas over rate the mph of their rtr cars.

i run the hpi pro 12R xs engine. and i gotta say its damn fast.
but my next engine is gonna be a team sirio engine.

The FE is a very good noob engine, but it only has a single needle carb. It is one of the most reliable engines I have ever owned, but certainly not the fastest. If you can find an OS 10E carb for cheap, the added lsn makes a big difference. The .15ss is a good engine, but for the $ there are better ones, imo. The 2.5 goes over 40k rpm, which is why it is such a fast engine, and makes 1.33 hp as tested on the RCCA dyno.
