Holy crap! I just read on HPI's site that you can trade in the old 21BB + $99 for one of the .25's that come in the SS kit.

Here's what they had to say:
http://www.hpiracing.com/rcforum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=66389

Just about any nearly complete, functional or non functional engine can be traded in. I have that old burnt up 21BB off the old truck that I'm probably gonna send in. Any thoughts about the new engine? Is it worth a C note?

I will be willing to bet that the new .25 will be as good if not better then the hyper and picco. I will take the chance.

A new engine with a bigger displacement at a price that is less than most engines of much lesser value...and you have to ask? Of course it is worth the C-note. Send it in.

Bmoc, click on the link in the first post, read that post, then click on the link in the HPI post and read that.

Put it this way, the old engine desn't even have to run to send it in. It could have a busted fin, cooked sleeve, or broken con rod, they'll still take it.

Hi,

Will the .25 be better then the .26 Picco? Cause i finnaly just got my Picco in Australia  ?

Thanks

Don't know if it's better, but for $99 american, it's better than shelving the 21BB as a backup. I'm gonna trade in my burnt up 21BB and get one.

Hey, You think trading my .15FE for a .12R SS with PS for 99bucks is a good deal? I was more intrested in that than the S25 Swap.
The S25 may be good for 99, but I'm pretty sure an Italian-Made Picco .26 with bigger displacement and more ports will be faster than the S25.

Yeah, but an HPI .25 is a crapton faster than the engine I'm gonna send in. It only runs good when it's temping around 325, and that's only for short periods.

so sence they will take it will the rotostart fit on the .25

and how good really is this engine

Dude, I'm not sure on the roto. I have one, but it's not on an engine at the moment. Someone on here mentioned something about the roto and the new HPI .25, but that might just be a rumor. HPI is a bit skimpy on info, but I'll see what I can find.

OK, here's what HPI has to say about their new .25 engine, please note the last line.

The powerful new Nitro Star S-25 engine features:

20% larger displacement than the 21BB engine
Billet purple anodized aluminum heatsink head for improved cooling and strength
Composite carburetor for improved heat resistance
Large 7mm carb opening for increased airflow
True ABC chrome sleeve construction for durability and long life
Dual needle adjustments for easier tuning than the 21BB
Purple anodized aluminum carb trim
Stealth black case for improved cooling
Roto Start compatible

Hmm wish I had known about the exchange before I went and got my Hyper21 about 4 weeks ago.

called hpi and asked them if they would take my crankcase-in-pieces for the exchange, and said YES! how cool is that! good thing i kept it instead of tossing it away

i have the ofna .25... rotostart fits like a charm (its the same block as the 21bb and hyper 8 port) and it is a great engine. it runs with my friends 21 8 port about evenly, he gets me on the first accell , but i catch up real quick (hes using different gearing for more accel... so I'm guessing it would be even or very close) I'm going to send my 21bb in and get another 25 for backup or for another one of my cars (supernitro maybe ...muahahaha) ...

a note before driving or running or doing anything with the .25 tho. use RED threadlocker to lock the back plate on. and put some sealant around the back plate too. it has a tendancy to vibrate loose no matter how much blue thread locker i put on it. but the red has it in there like a champ... i just dont know what I'm going to do if i ever have to take it appart now ... heat it up i guess.

also, if you have the .25 . look at getting the nova race pro head. its amazing and durable. i broke my 21bb and my 25 heads, knocked a few fins off each. but the nova is great, and engine runs cool.

dont like my rotostart, there is no point in me having it because the .25 starts up first pull every time .... I'm thinking about selling the roto.

Well I know i'm gonna exchange my 21bb. That thing is easy to tune...but it has no power. Besides, i'm blowing a whole paycheck on my ntc3, might as well put a little in the savage
