HPI Desert Trophy issues

Hi, I'm having a problem with my HPI Desert Trophy truck...4WD, brushed, all stock...firebolt 15T motor. Anyways, It hardly gets out of it's own way anymore. I'm wondering if anyone has had similar problems with poor performance from the model and what the fix was. Don't want to buy a motor if the ESC is bad, and vice-versa. Also, any way to test the ESC for a layman without fancy tools. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

I don't know what you mean? If it won't turn it is your steering servo

Depending on amount of runtime, it could be the motor is gone. If memory serves me correctly, the firebolt motors didnt last long...at least not with me when i used to run them. Can you replace the brushes?

Dunno I haven't taken it apart yet, wanted to test things first

If the brushes are replaceable, they will be on the outside of the can. I'm pretty sure its a one-shot motor though. (can't replace brushes) Do you have another good motor to swap with....that'll tell you whats bad.

connect the motor directly to the battery and see its performance. I have the exact same truck and a decrease in power was due to motor problems--I replaced the 15 T firebolt and it ran great--I'm running traxxas xl-5 and 12 T Titan in it now--Seems slower than the firebolt
