was thinking of picking up a HPI 5B BAJA BUGGY what are the pros and cons of this buggy and how fast are they thanks for any info

The HPI Baja 5b is an excellent buggy. It is reasonably tough out of the box and fast. Mine was clocked at just over 40 mph and runs for over 40 minutes on a tank of gas.

The only cons about it is its purchase price and the cost of upgrades.

If you buy one, it's a lot of fun for the price.

how much do they run new this guy has one for 650

650 isn't bad, but you'd have to let us know if it has an mods or upgrades, otherwise I bet you could find a stock one for around $500

which Baja version is it? HPI has put out several versions
the original (purple chassis)
the SS kit (orange alum)
2.0 (pretty the alum is grey)

If its the stock original its not a great deal.

also make sure its not a clone like King motor or Rovan. they look pretty much the same but i've heard the quality is not the greatest.

i have the baja and love it. 40+ min run times and little to no tuning. the durability is great. it 12 months of running i've only busted 2 rear arms and both were on REALLY cold days.

I've had my original RTR that I bought from another member here (thanks again NitroBuzzard) and only broke the under tray when I hit a railroad track when I misjudged the distance and replaced the rear tires due to wear. It's been the most reliable buggy for over 3 years.

if your buying "used" be sure it is the real deal.. not that I do not like clones cause I think they are just as good:) and be sure to check that diff, cause you never know if it was properly maintained by the person before..

I dont think it matters weather its a clone or original, they get hammered which ever one you choose.

It does matter in terms of cost.

How would you feel if you paid 5-6 hundred on what you thought was a used HPI Baja and find out it's a used knock-off?
