lean is in, rich is out.
hey bill, the best investment is to get a temp gun from your local hobby shop, they start at about $25. that is the heart of tuning your engine! with out it you will go in circles. the engine needs to be tuned quite often as temp and humidity change.. it will run any wher from 220*-260* 270+ is over heating and could couse damage very quickly.. before you make any changes.. right down on a peace of paper what the carb settings are and put them in your pit box. you will always refer to that when in doubt(you do not have manuel). as far as tuning. the high speed needle is the large one on top of the carb and the low speed nedle is the small screw on the side of the carb throat. the one towards the bottom is idle screw.DONT TOUCH IT! start with the low speed nedle and do a couple throttle punches, keeping an eye on the blue smoke..and keep checking the temp.. when you get that set pretty good wich it probly is know, continue to the high speed needle. by the sound of it, your gona want to richen up a little bit. so just twist the high speed out in 1/16 increments and a few high speed tests. again keeping an eye on the temp. what i do is find a sweet number that you like. mine is 220*230*.. its a cool setting with plenty of power..and tune it to that number. the low speed needle should be pretty good once its set. you will mainly be adjusting the high speed.
