Really it comes down to time and money. More money then anything though.

I'm doing club racing and the truck is all stock. would a vertex 18 be better then the trx2.5 I'm not so good at spelling ok.

A forward only conversion saves weight and mass in the trans. Also known as FOC. A tuned pipe is a must. Different tires than the stockers, but that's determined by the surface you'll be running on. Also a proper break in of the engine, then proper tuning, and also fine tuning the suspension, again, for the type of track you'll be on.
And by the way, ignore the guys comments about your spelling. We're not in class. His lack of punctuation and proper sentence structure is atrocious, lol.

Ok if your just going to be club racing then heres what you do. Get a 3.3 traxxas or a OS .18 motor, paired with a nice pipe, and air filter. Do a steel gear conversion on the spur and pinion, like the robinson racing. Also a FOC. Then go over to tekno, or what ever it is now and get a wing mount and wing. Get your self a good set of servos and a really good one for the stering like a Hitec 965MG or something works well. You then need a good set of tires, 40 series or not, dosent matter just rember bigger tires less power, bow-ties work really well on most track surfaces. You also may want to concider new bulk heads because it seems like the stockers break really quick. That should be a pretty good set up to get you started.

IMO you should buy a race truck. If you spend enough money for the Maxx to actually compete you will have spent enough money to just buy a truck that is race ready.

Hmmm, didn't like his spelling??? How about some punctuation in your reply? And technically, only the first word in each sentence/question should be capitalized unless it's proper name of a person, place or thing. So yours should look like this:

Who and what are you racing? Your buddy? Your neighbor?
Club racing or sanctioned?
Is it all stock? What have you done to it? What engine do you WANT to use?
The list goes on, let us know maybe we can help.

Not really. Rock crawlers move slowly and need extreme flex in the suspension. Building a Max into a crawler would be too costly, and it still wouldn't be very efficient.
