Hi guys,

I have a converted Hyper 8 running on 6s. It uses Mod1 gears and as a result, there is a fair amount of vibration between the pinion gear and the spur.

My problem is, the pinion keeps sliding down the shaft and falling off. At the moment i'm using removable thread lock to keep the grub screw in place. I'm worried that if I use non-removable thread lock, it will still slide off but I wont be able to get the grub screw out.

Any thoughts or experiences?

Cheers for any help!

how much threadlock are you using? I normally apply it with a toothpick. you just need a touch.

Also, is the grub screw getting loose or is the pinion just sliding off?

I use a small dab of blue loctitce on the pinion of my Castle 2650kv motor. No issues at all with it loosening. Make sure you're getting the grub tight on the FLAT part of the motor shaft. I had it on the curve once by mistake and it slide off pretty easily once vibration started.

Use a grinding wheel or file to grind a flat spot on the motor shaft where the grub screw sits. Then use a touch of blue threadlock after making sure both the grub screw and pinion threads are clean.

All good advice.. But as far as using red (permenant) loctite, it's removeable, you'll just need to introduce heat, such as with a small hobby torch or soldering iron, to the grub screw, then it'll come off..

those larger shafts should already have a flat side on the shaft right?

They should. At least the ones I've seen have the flat spot on the shaft for the grub screw.

Very true. But I would be concerned with putting that much heat to an expensive motor. It takes a lot of heat to loosen that stuff up.
