How does a channel work?

First of all..... Hi Everybody, I'm new to R/C and this forum. Just have a ? about channel....What is it and what does it do. Because I want to build my own R/C car.

A Channel if your talking about on your receiver can do anything. Mostly ots steering and foward or reverse. I have seen channels power on lights or d oother things on there RC. Most rides come with 2...steering and gas/brake or reverse but if you have extras the possibilities could be endless. Just read you instructions before you get creative
