tell me how ..........i love the car but my friend traxxas nitro4tec still beat me......what motor do i need? i was thinkin the os .15CVR maybe gearing..........it's gotta be possible........tell me how

Mathematically, it's impossible (gearing and wheel size). You will definitely NOT hit even close to that with an OS .15cv-r. Reason I know that is because I had one in my NTC3. I am currently running a Novarossi NS12S3A1 in mine and it is a performance engine BUT it will MAYBE do close to 55 if I had enough room. The gearing I have will allow a good launch and max top end (21/27 pinion and 54/48 spur).

In a straight line shot he will beat you but on a track you WILL beat him if your car is set up correctly and your driving skills are on par, even with the engine you have now. The 4tec is strictly a park basher and not a performer on the track. Out of the box, a 4tec is "supposed" to hit 60+. Take that with a grain of salt. That all dependson tuning and perfect weather conditions.

I raced my NTC3 this season and learned a lot as far as setup and tuning. Speed is not worth crap if your car can't handle. Clean lines and smoothness make a faster car. Trust me, you have the superior car. Just learn to drive it and learn the dynamics.

BTW, the os 15cv-r makes 1.2 (discontinued engine) and my Novarossi makes 1.52 and that's from a .12 engine. You need a performer to reach higher goals. Italian engine's are the way to go if you have the cash.

Get a rope Tie it around the bumper of train J/K
try the rb v15, or Mugen x12,rody roam x12 they around the $300 range

That's some serious change for just messing around at the park but it's the way to go for speed and performance.

why do you want your cars to go this fast?
I have plenty of fun at 30-40 with all of mine(no onroad). I guess what ever floats your boat. Altough i think you should get good at driving mid-range..........,real good.

money is not a problem i already know i got him in handling.....but i want the top speed to......as far a driving i'm' pretty good i' already change the servos and the the radio over for my M8radio ,,,,,added the swaybars ,foam tires, failsafe, filter and pipe........i really want this car to smoke his and shut this guy up........i just spent like 500 buck on the fusion 21 a car from shumacher......look it up it's crazy does 80mph.l..........but it's a 3speed and he won't race it.....plus i'm still waiting on my LHS to get it in...."i hate pre-paying...........well somebody let me know.........where do i get a good priced radar gun

the only way you will shut him up is if you make a a track. say maybe a small oval if all he can do is gun it then he'll be nothin when you hit the first turn.

Your best chance is to get a .21-.28 engine that will make somewhere in the neightborhood of 40k rpm's (and yes, they do exist). Gear the car absolutely as high as possible and get some foams.

Check out the Sirio Engines....great prices...awesome horsepower....killer RPM's. I run the Sirio .12 Evo 2. She is a beast, pushing 1.6 horses and maxing at 40,000 RPM. If you need more horses than 1.6 than check out their bigger engines.

As far as gearing goes for top speed, the lowest you can go is 48T Spur & 27T Clutch Bell, which = 4.44 final drive ratio.

Or if you really want to get brave, you can try to find a 28T that will work for you. I know Kyosho has one, but I don't know if it will fit onto the NTC3's clutch bell. Anyway, if it worked, your final drive ratio would be about 4.29
So for $8, it's worth a try.

As I said, you won't see that kind of speed with an OS engine. You need to gear high and have an engine that will hit 40K. Oh, and as far as "thinking you have a handle on speed," take it to the track. Speed in a straight line is easy, speed over a course is difficult.

I too have a fusion21. It is fast but one thing is for sure, my NTC3 WILL take it off the line (it's been done). Over a long distance, yeah the NTC3 will putter out and the fusion will still be pulling to a higher gear. On the track, the fusion will be outperformed because of the CG.

As I said, take it to the track and see how good your driving skill really is. A big peice of humble pie will be served. What park bashers consider to be "good driving" is only a fraction of what driving an r/c is really about. I know, I was one of those people when I first started racing competatively.

BTW, the largest gear made for the NTC3 is 27 tooth.

how do they get the cen and and 4tec up to like 60 - 70mph stock out of the box? i mean these whole cars cost less than some of the engines being talked about as needed to get the tc3 up to those speeds? is it the belt drives or maybe other companys make wider selection of gears?

inquiring minds want to know

Rediculously high gearing. That's why they don't do so well in the hole shot. They also need a lot of room to hit those top end numbers. For my fusion21 it was easy, 21BB, 3 speed and a very high gear for the third gear.

reacinh a speed is more gearing than engines. a strong engine will only help reach that speed faster than a stock motor. gearing is the key.

lucidvtec.........Schumacher also makes a pinion bell for maxiumn acceleration, it is perfect for a small parking lot track. You also may want to experiment with wide foam tires instead of the kit tires to see if you can get more traction with your fusion. Calandra Racing sells 35mm wide foams with offset hexes.

thx for all the replies........it looks like i'm going to have to research it more.......somebody said bring it to the track ..........i have 3acre's of land with a dirt and road track in my backyard.......people live at my house racin each other were tryin to put together a race drift jump video l'll let you all know when we get something to gether................are there any motors that spin 50,000rpm that would be crazy

Most i've seen is 43k rpm. But I question where the powerband is at. My novarossi is rated at 41k rpm but it'll never get there realistically. Cuz the powerband drops off before then.

A few of us said and agree to bring it to the track, that's where the car will show it's worth, and also show your driving skills as well as show how well your car is set up or where it needs to be improved. Don't forget that throttle control is also a key factor. Modulate and compensate to get the car to handle, turn and track the way you want it.

An engine will turn at the specified rpm's but with load on the engine it will not reach it. Much like a regular 1:1 car, the actual torque and HP rating of anengine will be reduced due to static drag from rolling friction on the drive train due to tires and wheels.

To get a nitroTC-3 to hit 70 mph you need to do some custom modification. You would need a high output motor, like maybe a modified 15 or 18. And maybe some custom made gears so you can reach the higher top end speeds.
