I have a savage x 4.6 and am lovin'it. Great jumps and in two years only part replaced is a cracked fuel tank. ( got a guard since!)
On with me question - how do I or what is the best way to lower the ride height on me savvy??
Its great fun at jumpin and stuff - but when it comes to takin corners my Losi lST2 just makes mince meat of it.
BTW - my LOSI LST2 is also pretty good but replaced several parts in the same time frame and treat it the same.
Strange you might say...but true.
If anyone cares...I love the savvy more - coz it just looks better-like a serious menace to society:).

how much do you want to lower it? you can take fuel line and put it inside the shock body, over the shaft and right under the shock piston. you can drop it just a couple of mm's or drop it staight to the ground for some seriuos on-road action. you can play around with all kinds of ride hights and still change it back to stock with no problems.. on some of my lower rigs i also put fuel line on the bottom of the shaft to stop it from crashing to the ground on larger jumps.. becouse you have 8 shocks, you want to make sure all the tubing is excactly the same size for obvious reasons

The best way to lower the CG of the Savage is to get a hold of some Low Center of Gravity TVP's HPI puts out a set nowadays.

The fuel tubing trick in the shocks works but after a while they will start to split and deteriorate.

What I do is remove the springs from one shock on each corner just the springs and the spring retainer from each corner that drops the truck down a lil more. I raced my savage like this for 2 years and it handeled the jumps and the turns with ease the CG was much lower then stock almost 1.5" lower. I was also using 35 - 25 wt oil in the shocks the lower seemed to work better made the shocks more responsive.

If your just bashing I'd say leave all the springs in place. if racing loos the 4 springs and you should be able to rocket thru the turns.

If you still have those spacer on ur shocks...take them off it drops the truck half an inch...=devil

Thanks for the advice people!
I might give a mixture of these suggestions a try. I like the idea from evilgrin, but can anyone confirm if the lower TVPs fit the Savage X and all it's stock gear? The reason I ask is that on HPI's website it appears that these lower CofG TVP's are for the 'older' savages. i.e S25 etc - before the X type TVP's.

I am after good cornering - not really for racing but just to improve it's handling on corners.
I will give losing a shock on each corner a go. and let you know how it performs.

Thanks for all your ideas.

Hands down the best handling mod you can do to a Savage is LCG TVPs. Add green springs all the way around with 30wt. oil and you can pitch it sideways in grass at very high speeds without traction rolling. The HPI LCG will fit all savage models. It is really flimsy BTW and also for the price I recommend going with a better quality chassis such as...

I had the front/rear extended LCG TVPs from this guy. Best chassis ever made for a Savage. He ships for free and under 2 weeks from the UK.
A little cheaper but still far superior to the HPI chassis is these guys.

They have a lot of options and treat their customers great as well.

I've been looking at the TVPs with the lower center of gravity, but I think I read somewhere that the Rotostart won't clear with that set up. Anyone know about that?

fast lane machine also has a set of shock towers that in my opinion are priced very reasonable, and they have tons of mounting positions

Wow, that's some serious stuff! Thanks for that link. I've bookmarked it, and now I'll have to get more parts.
The lowered TVPs, another center skid plate, rear shock tower and the bulk/diff combo.

Edit: Need some more info. If I get the LCG plates in the extended version, does anyone know if it changes the body mount positions?
I'm working on my 5th lid, and all the holes are in 4 of them already.

Your body will still fit but you will need to cut new rear holes in the bed area, and if you have the Savage X truck( diffs and shocktowers) the rotostart will still be accessible.
