Hi, i was wondering if i needed a 3ch radio to get the ABS braking? Can anyone tell me a good radio for the ABS breaking. I have Futaba 2ph MS that came with a car a bought,,will this radio allow ABS? Also I have a 705 serpent I just bought,,and the belt in the rear seems kinda loose, like it may come off at high speeds. Can some please tell me how to tighten this belt. The belt on the side has a belt (tensioner)<<--sp.

I'm not sure about tightening the belts, but for the ABS you need a radio that HAS abs programmed into it. Its a function that you can turn on and off.

I have the 710 so I don't really know the design differences between the two. I do know that it is an entirely different car. I found this link on the serpent page that has everything that is downladable for the 705. Hope it helps ....

You better have some high speed servos to make ABS effective at all. I had it set up with my ntc3 on my lynx3d radio and didn't feel any improvement so I just turned it off.

are these high speed servos?? for steering i have a hitech servo,, and for brake/throttle i have a futabas3003.. are they high speed?

The first radio I had with ABS was the Futaba 2PL. I had my NTC3 on that radio (10 model memory). It had 3 different speeds for the ABS (slow, med & fast). On the fast setting, it pulsed the servo very fast and it allowed me to steer into a turn with very little oversteer. Medium did the same thing but had to adjust my speed since I would oversteer just a litle bit. On slow, it would lock up the brakes on every pulse. This proved useless on a turn but allowed late braking on a straight so I could out brake a lot of the other cars. All this was with stock servos (futaba 3003).

DBlock, ABS is not built into the car or servo. It's programed into the controler. The Futaba radio's that I know of that have abs are the 2PL, 3PJS, 3PM and 3PK. There are a few others but I can only think of these radio's since i either have one or know someone that has one.

Thanks Driver!!!! they told me you were the man around here,, and now i see way,,thanks again. I love this nitro stuff

You're welcom DB. I don't know who told you that I was the "the man" but I'll take any compliment that I can get!

You're going to love that serpent 705. That was supposed to be my first car but because of a limited budget, I got the NTC3. I'm kinda glad I did because not even 6 months later, they came out with the 710. Either way, serpent makes great products. Very Nimble and agile cars. With proper setup, these cars will be on point and react very well to your inputs on the controller.

The hardest part with these cars is learning it. There are so many ways to adjust the car other than wheel alignment. Just be patient and do one adjustment at a time.

BTW it's D I V E R not driver. :boxing:

If you want ABS from a radio, you can check out the KO Propo Radios. I use the Mars R and it has ABS and several time counters on it. The good thing w/ the ABS is that it is completely adjustable. You can set the pulse, width, time, etc. It truly is very versatile.

Another good feature on them are the timers and counters. They are great to keep track of your car's preformance and help you determine if a modification or change is truly benefiting you. I really didn't use these features when I run my savage, but I find myself using them w/ my NTC3.

Here is a link if you are interested:

If you are on a budget, check out their EX-11 Presto radio. It is on sale for $100, (normally $175). It has ABS, 3-car memory, and all the other bells & whistles.

I think you will be fine with the servos you already have for your steering. Change the throttle servo. You did say that this is your first on-road, correct? You won't really have anything to compare it towards. Just learn the car and it's characteristics first. Especially since you have a oneway to deal with instead of an open diff.

I personally don't use the coreless servo's just because it's really expensive for my budget right now. What I did was get the Futaba 3305 (metal gear/high torque) for the steering and Futaba 3310 for the throttle/brake.

The serpent tends to need a little bit more stopping power than the 3003 can offer. With time and wear, the plastic gear in there will strip and eventually give to the torque demand. The 3310 is a "moderately" torquey, letal gear servo. It's also pretty cheap ($28 avg price).

If you use the 3305 for your throttle servo, it WILL pop the cup off the throttle ball. It's happened to my brother's 710. That servo has too much power for it and is best used for steering ($38 avg price).

thanks again diver not driver lol. No this is my second car,,my first was a rs4 evo,. I had it about 3 months and got tried of getting beat by my friends. And yes i was gonna get the 710 and still will,, but i found this 705 serpent on ebay for $280! in A+ shape,,came with engine, pipe, ofna starter box, peak charger, radio,,so i jumped on it. I will up date the servos. Diver, one last question,, the rear belt seems loose,,it may just be me,,but is there anyway to tighten this belt?

I was looking at the manual on-line and it doesn't seem that there is a belt tensioner other than the main belt. I think this was one of the issues that the 710 addressed. If in doubt, change them. I'm sure that they have some wear and tear on them so they have stretched a bit. Better safe than sorry.

When you rotate the axle, the bottom part of the belt should be pulled tighter than the top anyway. Try rotating the axle and see where the tension lays. Other than that, upon inspection, I would just replace them as I said previously. You have no real way of telling how much the car has been run and abused. Also, check the steering and suspension for binding.

I learned the hard way that you are supposed to relubricate moving parts of the suspension after using denatured alcohol on my NTC3. Rust will start and inhibit full motion. Just go through a general lookover and check the pivot balls and suspension parts for binding.

When you get the 710, you'll love it as well. I have yet to get a 705 and 710 side by side to compare the differences and upgrades.

Enjoy your serpent! You will notice that there is a big difference between that and your HPI Evo. Don't get me wrong, the Evo is fine but tha 705 is a whole different animal. Learn to drive it well and your friends will have something to ponder when you drive that 705 with them.

I've got the 3pm and it has adjustable speed, return point, and delay before it kicks in. it also has timing functions with lap memory and trigger start. all this along with all the typical digital trim, epa, d/r, atl, sub-trim, etc. features. it also has a "condition switch" that allows you to switch between 2 complete sets of trims and settings on the fly with 1 button. you can use it for different tracks, idle up when starting, or to just adjust the way the car handles mid-race (like turn abs on or off)

hope that helps

The KoPropo Helios is an awesome radio as for your the loose belts try adding spacers like the 710 has & this should help as for servos try the Hitec 645 best dollar spend for what you get or you can go with the futaba 9402 for little more money
