Is the radio that comes with the S25 RTR acceptable? If not, what makes it a bad radio? I do not own a 3-channel radio and I am trying to decide if I should get an SS or a 25 RTR. I would rather not have to spend $200 on a 3-channel radio & 3 servos if the RTR radio is ok.

Tower hobbies says "high-torque steering servo with 70 oz/in
.20 sec. @ 4.8V or 90 oz./in & .16 sec. @ 6V" that should be ok for the savage havent seen any real complaints about it yet

If your out bashing and just having a good time in general the stock RTR setup may be all you need for now. If you need a stronger steering servo, upgrade it later on.

As you get into the hobby and get more RCs the radios that hold multiple profiles will save you money in the long run.

I have no complaints w/ the standard radio system. Sure, there are better, but the standard setup has been sufficient for me.

i trashed my steering servo doing a crazy jump. i replaced it with one from XTM for $35. i can drive it further than i can see it, so no complants there :D

Hmmm, the only complaint I have about the stock electronics is the stock steering servo. It just doesn't have enough power to turn the big tires. This is due in part to it only being 90 oz in at six volts. A stronger servo is almost required. Of course so is the Ofna Monster pirate steering setup. Newayz in short the stock radio equipment will be fine. I am running a JR XS3 and just love the feel of the radio in my hand. Very comfortable.

I concur with everyone's response to your question, the stock radio package is good enough, just be ready to replace your steering servo, I broke mine after 3 hard bashing.

:ale:

The stock radio works fine. I didn't change a thing in the electronics dept. and had about a gallon and a half through my Savage without any problems.

The steering servo may seem weak when you just have the truck sitting there and trying to turn the wheels. But once its moving even a couple miles an hour, the servo works just fine....

I think the stock radio gear is ok for an average user. My savage is only 3 months old and i am on reciever number 3, throttle servo number 2 but still using stock steering servo. Never had a need for reverse yet. I put at least 5 tanks of fuel through my truck every day and it takes as much as i can throw at it. The reason for so many electical changes is just down to careless driving through water, snow, mud or even a river that i thought i was good enough to jump only to find out that i was not, came out clean all the same. Go with the RTR its a good package that gives you the choice to upgrade if you find that you need to.

the stock radio sucks balls compared to what i use now
i use an m8 and 2 358s with a standard for reverse

new Transmitter??

Why blow your money on a new transmitter? They are kind of like computers.....some a little faster....some a little better quality but the bottom line is they all do the same thing. I'm on my third gallon and have had no problems at all but hey if someone wants a new transmitter go get it.

I agree w/ Nitro.

I'd spend the money first on things like a rechargable pack for the electronics, 4 spider diff mod, stronger rims, temp monitor, motor saver air filter, etc...

Sounds good. I just wanted to make sure the RTR radio is ok. The Radio is really the deciding factor for me between the SS or the RTR 25. If I went with the SS I would need to upgrade the clutch, flywheel, and fuel tank. I would probably get an Airtronics MX-3 (with 2 included servos + one additional High Torque Servo) or a Futaba 3PDFX (no included servos)

I'm wanting a rechargable pack for my reciever that has a charging pigtail on it. If someone could give me a link to a good one, I'd appreciate it. I do a lot of business with tower, if they have one that would be cool.

Newnitrofan posted this link last month:

Check the vendor for his current auctions. You should be able to get it for $25 shipped with the charger. This is a 1100mAh pack while the HPI hump is 6v 1200mAh.

If you are thinking MX3 than either take a look at the JR XS3 or the new futaba 3PMFS.

I didn't want to spend that much.
