This may take a while to explain, but please bear with me. To start with I cannot run my Revo at the factory settings, It's smokin' hot in no time. I was running today at 5 turns out on hsn and was still getting a little hot (about 37F outside). It starts up with no problems and I'll run several WOT runs and it is running to rich with no power & barely shifting into 2nd. I VERY gradually lean out the hsn until I'm at about 250 degrees. I'll run it at this setting for a while even though the power is'nt very good. After a little while of running (with no adjustments) the thing starts running like a beast. When I check my temps I'm up to about 280 but still have a visible smoke trail. This is my first nitro truck so I don't know if its me or the picky 2.5r. This is consistant with the truck with temp outside from 37-55. The traxxas book says 280 is to hot to run. I called traxxas support and the guy did'nt seem to care. I've heard a lot of good things about traxxas support, but I was'nt impressed when I called. Any help Would be appreciated.

It actually sounds more like a LSN problem. If the LSN is set too lean, it will get hot, and nothing you do with the HSN will correct it.
Start it and let it idle. If you have a temp gauge, keep checking it till the engine temp stabilizes. (doesn't get any higher) What temp is it reading?
If you do not have a temp gauge, same thing, let it idle for about 5 minutes, till the temp is up, then pinch the fuel line close to the carb. Count the seconds it takes till the engine shuts off. It should be between 3-4.
Let me know what you're getting, either in temp or time.

Ithink you might be onto something Rolex. My hsn is about 5 turns out and lsn is at 1 turn open from flush. I let it idle and within abot 3 min it was up to 270! I did the pinch test and it took about 3-4 sec to die. There is a decent amount of smoke & unburnt fuel coming out the exhaust.

270 at idle is a MAJOR problem. You need to richen it. Let it run up to temp again, then richen it about 1/4 turn. Do it very slowly, since you might have to raise your idle while adjusting the LSN. Keep doing little blips on the throttle so the carb can 'accept' the adjustments as you do it.
Let it keep idling, and give it time to cool to the new settings. Keep adjusting the LSN and the idle till at idle it stays at about 200. That keeps everything in a safe range.

Once it's set to about 200 at idle, you can lean it or richen it a little for better performance at low end, but keep it between 190 and 210 at idle.
When the idle and temp is right, do the WOT runs and then adjust the HSN.
Let me know how it works out.

Two words- Holy sh#t! I'm starting to think I had some debris or something stuck in the lsn. After richening it about 1.5 turns with no change in temp, I opened it up some more and ran some fuel through it. Now it is running awesome at factory lsn setting. I have ran just under 1 gallon through this and its never ran better then tonight. Thanks Rolex for steering me in the right direction.

Good to hear it's up and running. Enjoy it.
By the way, if you read the red sticky post on top of this Revo forum, you might have found the problem to be particles in the fuel tank.
Any problems in the future, let us know.

I start the engine and after 1-2 minutes the teperature of engine is very high.
I will try your thing too. Thanks for the tip. I will lwt you know, but now here is very cold weather, so later.
