i put afterrun oil in ran it around now i can bearly pull the da m thing and i check and its not flodded. any suggestions

Did this just start happening or are you just starting to break this engine in?

Putting After Run Oil will make the engine a bit harder to turn over at first. I'm afraid I don't have any suggestion other than a set of gloves to prevent those nice blisters that you get between your fingers.

Sounds like your engine has extra extra compression, I herd of this happing and its a bitch.

Isn't it good to have lots of compression?

I know .21 are a bitch to start though.

Just loosen the glow plug a bit, and when you get it started dont forget to tighten the plug back up.

id do the hairdryer trick and loosen the glow plug.. real easy to pull.. i have yet to break a pull start unit..

take hair dryer and warm her up..

I said EXTRA EXTRA. If you losen the glow plug it should work. Let us know.

I have this engine.

The hair dryer thing works great. It might sound weird but it's a good replacement for a "heat gun." Turn it on high and heat the engine for 5-10 min. I have a temp gun and my engine got up around 140degrees that way.

Loosen the glow plug a 1/2 turn too. With the rich break in settings, it should fire up on the first or second pull.

good luck

well got 3 tanks through but was tough it wouldnt stay idling till i leaned it way out those settings in the pamplet are stupid gonna do tank 4 and 5 tommorow had to run most of theese tanks with the glow starter on man i went through the rechargable and 8 batteries for the other one but i got 3 tanks through it

Those settings in the pamphlet are there so that you run rich and do not fry your engine before its time. The new internals need the extra oil in the extra fuel that a rich setting gives. This helps them get broken in properly. You will find that from this point forward your purchase was a wise one.

I'm interested in knowing what your final setting for the High Speed needle is going to be once dialed in. Let me know, please.

This might be stupid but, it could be Hydrolocked. Was there any chance of water getting into your engine? ex: washed but didnt dry air filter, wet glo plug, water in fuel, stuff like that. Its really hard to start when its hydro locked. Just like a real car.

never thought of that might have been a little moisture in filter i should be good now though thanks for the input will let everyone know how it runs tommorow on the road

Yeah that pamphlet's settings are weird. I had trouble starting mine as well. A friend turned my hsn 4 turns out from closed, and my LHS guy told me to use two washers on my glow plug. I did that and I had no problem starting it for my break in.

While hydrolocking isn't beyond the realm of possibility, I doubt that is the problem. These engines are extremely tight when they are new. They are made that way so that when they do heat up and the internals start working together you have a nice tight fit (the whole sleeve expands a little more than the piston head thing...call it physics). After the engine is properly broken in, you will, or should I say should, not have the same problems.

Mine was difficult as hell to start for the first tank. The second tank was also a little tight, but from tank three on it was like starting any other engine out there.

So, check everything you want, but I'd be willing to bet that the problem is just the normal Hyper break in woes.

Loosening the plug works very well. Just make sure you dont loosen it more than a 1/4 turn. It WILL fly out like a bullet if you loosen it too much. And whatever you do, DO NOT look at the plug while starting it. Fuel WILL spit out. I've had to use Emergency Eyewash twice since I got into nitro. And it burns like all hell!

Funny part is, if you call a doctor, they wont know what the hell to do. As soon as you say Nitro they get lost.

Like a DR has a nitro car.. cannot afford to blister his hands starting a 8 port on break in..

i loosened my glo plug.. never touched the factory settings, had fuel blowing everywhere.. The idel is not supposed ot be smooth, if it is its too lean.. it took a good 10 tanks of fuel for the idel to smooth out.. BOY it sure does make breakign a savage more fun..

skymaxx, my HSN needle ended up at about 1 7/8 turns from lightly seated. It had plenty of smoke and only hit 230-240 after some long hard runs.

If I have learned one thing from this carb, it woulld be to ignore other people's needle settings. I read someplace that ambient temperature and humidity can change needle setting by as much as 1 full turn in either direction. Therefore, settings that are good for you may not be good for me. I proved this point one day by screwing around for three hours trying people's setting I read online.

yep.. weather, fuel, glow plug all affect needle settings.. so never use someone elses..

I was curious about your needle setting as a comparison. I am aware of the factors that impact performance of the engine with respect to carb settings. I do appreciate the information though. Just proves that the forum works.

I found it odd that I had to dial mine in as far as I did compared to other engines I have. Since I am not alone in this, I am no longer overly curious.

Thanks much. Enjoy the engine.
