I have no idea about this, I read it somewhere (either here or on traxxas' site).

What was said was..you could take a 1/4 inch drill bit and drill the exhaust tip and it would improve performance.

I was just wondering about this and has anyone acually done this?

I doubt it, if the exhaust tip is clogged them drilling out to clear it would be a good idea, but I think if you drill it out to make it bigger you will have less back pressure

Yes, very true.

From what I've learned in real cars, more back pressure isnt always better.

Yeah but all of the pipes are made to work the way they are, doing any mods to them is not a good idea.

I may reem my traxxas blue tuned pipe out some..just to see what it will do..

what I'm thinking is it will make it louder with no noticable power gain/lost.

that 1/4in drill is used to make the factory exaust work with a 3.0 which is a bigger motor than the 2.5 therefor needs a bigger exaust.. there is a link for an optional "big bore" exaust right under that.. so you dont have to drill the factory one..

so makeing the exaust stringer bigger does make it produce more power. but not all the time.

What gave you that idea? Bigger engines need bigger exhaust passages than smaller engines... I drilled out my stock GT pipe and it really didnt do anything except screw up my tuning...

hey, i have an upgraded pipe, and the hole was to big, so the tube kept on coming out. All i did was buy a little "nipple" that goes on the exhaust ($3). Does this affect my tuning and stuff because now the exhaust-tank entrance is about 2 times as small. Thanks

hey, no need to answer that. Found help, (buggyracer28, thanks a lot).

Well if you guys dont think it will make more power check this out http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDRB9&P=7

what your stating takes the question out of context. on your existing engine and pipe combo, drilling the stinger bigger will not produce more power if your already using the correct pipe. if your using the wrong pipe, you have more issues that just stinger diameter. the only time you drill out a stinger is when using a slightly larger displacement engine than a pipe was designed for. this is why there is a drill bit included with the sirio .18. its a larger displacement engine than the traxxas 2.5 the stock pipe was designed for. therefore it flows more exhaust volume and a larger stinger will gain the engine some higher rpms and more top end power. this is also true with the current state of monster truck engines. there hasnt been a properly designed pipe made yet for the .26's, .28's, and .30's out there, so drilling the stinger of a pipe made for a .21 will yield more high rpm power.

A perfect example is the Z71 rednecks around here with HUGE pipes straight out the back, that makes it sound like a sick sheep. Also makes it sound like its going 100mph when its going like 10..lol.. lame.. As for drilling out the pipe, I dont think it works on these engines, but like on a dirtbike or something with a baffle, I know you get a couple more ponies by removing the baffle or drilling it out..

Nitro motors are two stroke and require back presure, and pipes are tuned to the motor it was made for. Unlike 4 stroke like in a car were you can just run a straight pipe if you want.
