Hi Torque Steering?

Is a high torque steering servo necessary on a RS4 3
I use Hitec High torque 645 servos for steering on my trucks but was wondering if it made any difference on a touring car?

I don't know if it's really necessary but I used to use the stock servo in my NTC3 (futaba 3003) till i broke it racing (hit the board many times). It gave out simply because it has plastic gears. I went and got the Futaba 3305. It's classified as a high torque servo but most of all it has metal gears which will last longer than the stock servo.

It holds the wheels where you point them and withstands a lot of torture. I think it has the most "bang for buck" @ $38 avg price.

you dont have to use high torque servo's in a rs4.
i have a hpi rs3ss and use up to 6kgservos'
on an onroad car you want to have a fast digital servo for fast cornering. the car is light so torque above 6kg isnt really necessary.

for steering i used the 3050 6.5 kg.cm, speed 0.12 sec
throttle 3151 3.5kg speed 0.13sec

Petal, I really don't see the need for a digital servo in a touring car application. For about half the price, he can get a good metal gear hi torque servo with response times similar to what you have listed. Maybe 2-3 hundredths of a second slower, but I doubt anyone would notice the difference. I have worn out a plastic gear servo on a touring car without major impacts. I'm using Hitec 645MG and JR Z590M for steering and recommend them highly.

Go scoop up a pair of SF-2 servo's that come stock on the HPI Savage. You can get them brand new for about $10 off ebay. So for $20 total, that's not a bad deal.

I am running them on my NTC3 w/ great results. 90oz in 0.16 sec will definitely turn your wheels and pull your carb. Just make sure it is the Savage SF-2 servo and not the SF-1 servo's. The SF-1 servo's are weaker and slower.
