I am expecting my new Monster GT end of the week. One of the first upgrades I am going to do is a screw kit. I learned the hard way wrenching on my T-Maxx. Anyways, I am looking at Hexcrews but was wondering if the armor plated screws are worth the extra green? The standard kit is $32.40 and the AP kit is $47.40.

The armor plating will help keep the screws from forming rust, not a big deal if you run in mostly dry conditions or keep your rig miticulously cleaned. The reg hexcrews screws and tony scews are the same 12.9/10.9 steel. If you want to save some bucks, write down all your screw sizes and order from www.mcmaster.com. It costs more initially but you will end up with a lifetime of screws that are the same quality of the other two guys.

All screws wear out eventually, especially ones that you remove regularly and also those that have loctitite on them. They are a disposable item.

Tonys screws are the best..........

http://www.tonysscrews.com/ contact him, he MAY be able to put a kit together for ya.....

I already contacted Tony and he is having trouble getting a list together to put together a kit.

I will have to checkout mcmasters.

Hey diesel, your link isn't working for me.

Found it, www.mcmaster.com, dropped the "s" on the end.

Sorry about that Nubster, I edited my first post.

Do a search for "socket head cap screw". It will list all the head types and lengths/diameters you need.

Unfortunately McMaster only sells screws in large quantities.. It's good to have extras though... :)

I recently looked into this as well for my storm and got this from customer service

Hi Jonathan,

The best kit for the job is definately the A.P. kit. It is our armor plated version of the regular HexHeads kit. Here is a link to give you more information on the A.P. kit:

http://www.hexcrews.com/HexHeadsAP-FactSheet.htm

Keep in mind that all of our kits only contain flat head and socket cap screws. We sub in socket cap screws for button head screws since socket cap screws are much stronger and longer lasting.

Let us know if you have any more questions. Thanks!

I plan on getting it still for my Storm regardless. Hope it helps.

Interesting marketing information from their page on Armor Plated Screws. All the "performance" numbers are the same for an armor plated screw as a standard 12.9 grade screw. The difference is corrosion resistance and tighter fit due to the layer of zinc-nickel plating versus a standard plain screw. The black oxide screws do offer some mild rust resistance and lubricating properties.
