Hello, I am new to nitro RC cars and bought one second hand, its a condor pro. I tried to start it and the pulls start came off in my hand!! So replaced it with a rotor start that was included. I cannot, however much i try, get the blinkin thing to start. I have read up on priming the engine and checking the glow plug and all that seems ok. Is there any thing I might be missing, the rotor start just spins the engine round and round, it did sound like it was almost starting. I am concerened that I may have damged the engine now, any help or thoughts on what I can do?

thanks

PK

Make sure you have fresh fuel, a new glow plug, and a good charge in your starter and ignitor batteries. Make sure the fuel lines are leak free along with the tank cap.

Is the motor spinning over or just the RotoStart spinning? If you hear the motor spinning over, you can rule out your one way bearing.

Since it's used, I would bring the motor tuning back to factory and start from there again. The tune may be too far out of whack for it fire up. Also do what Matt said above. Fresh Fuel...Fresh Plug...Fresh batteries. You may also want to check the idle gap as well if you're having flooding issues. Doesn't sound like you are, but you never know.

The Engine turns over but i can't get any life out of it. I am worried i am damaging it as the roto start is very powerful, I have tried new plug new fuel, glow starter is fully charged and plug glows bright orange if i check it out of the car. Still wont start though.

Any more thoughts?
thanks

Are you sure you are priming the engine? When I got my first nitro that was my issue. I was plugging the exhaust for like 1-2 seconds...then thinking it would fire up. Little did I know the fuel tube was still empty because it was 100% full of air when I started.

Make sure fuel is getting to the carb. If you have to, put a few drops of fuel directly into the carb and see if it starts. If it does, make you are priming it properly and the fuel lines do not have leaks or clogs in them.

I generally prime it until I can visibly see fuel get to the carb + 1 second. You can either cover the exhaust pipe tip to prime it, or pull off the fuel line and blow in it. Either way works....one tastes nasty if you're not careful. hehe

Yeah I am sur it priming properly, I can see fuel go all along the pipe to the carb and like you say I give +1 sec. I think I have brokrn it now is I am sure it used to freewheel and now when i push it the gears turn and it feels stiff

What used to freewheel? Are the wheels spinning when you try to start it? Have you pulled the plug and run the RotoStart to make sure it's not flooded?

Yes I have checked for flooding and all is good, still doesn't start.

Does the motor have any compression? Have you ever heard it run? You said you got it secondhand....did he start it before you bought it? Have you tried resetting the needles to factory settings?

I'm no nitro guru, but I echo what Motogod said.. If the needles are out of whack, they wont start no matter how much ya pull em! Put the hsn and lsn back to stock and make sure it's got a 1mm gap for idle, then do the fresh fuel-prime-fresh batts-ect and see if it'll fire..

AT LAST!! I got it started although only for about 2 minutes, but long enough to scare the living daylights out of the dog as it charged accross the floor cos the throttle was on highish when i switched the remote on.. lol... wont do that again.. Thanks for all your help, I think all your ideas helped and I have got to get used to the ins and outs of running a nitro car. I think I will go back to a pull start though or maybe a starter box, are they any good?

Starter Box is great, but it really depends on what you're doing...and where you're running. Lugging a starter box into the desert or the woods would suck. At the race track...it's tough to beat a starter box though!

Glad to hear ya got it running.
