OK so when i start it up it runs for a few seconds revs up,wheels spinning fast,then it dies all in about 10 secs.

Since it's a used engine, I'd seal it up, even if somebody already did it. Start a little shy of factory needle settings. An 1/8th turn shy on the hsn, a 1/16th shy on the lsn. New glow plug and a fully charged ignitor are must haves as well. Make sure the fuel and exhaust systems are sealed up, and give it a whirl.
