Well my engine has overheated and my lhs says i can go with a new motor or get a new sleeve in my trx 2.5 and i was wondering how much i can pick one up for? They run 70 bucks at the lhs but i know thats kinda steep, so please ifo would be good. Thanks

Have you contacted Traxxas to inquire whether you might be eligible for a warranty rebuild?

ok thanks

Nope they said they wont and i was curious is the sleeve hard to install cause I'm going to get it from my lhs and they have my car already and they said they can't do it until tuesday cause they have a 2 day race this weekend and i was thinking about puting it in myself, is it hard?

please help

I won't question the content of your dialog with Traxxas.

Removing the sleeve is harder than installing the sleeve.

If you're not comfortable with it let the LHS do it. You might pay a little more but then if any problems develop you can take it back to them and scream "warranty" after you've paid the fee.

Who was it that determined the engine was overheated and needed replacement or rebuild? The LHS? And what was their diagnostic logic behind this recommendation?

Poor compression?

i took it in to get a tune up and been haven a few probs and they said at about 230 degrees it would stall and die when your not on the gas which was what was happening to me and they said that they tested compression at lower temps and it was fine and at the higher temps it had really bad compression and they said that it could have been caused by the overheating which would cause the sleave to expand too big and have bad compression at high temps. And traxxas does not have a warranty on their engines at all they only waranty against defects by the manufacturer.

hey is that motor under warranty? cause if so u can send it back to traxxas and they will fix it for free.

bryan

um they should have a warranty on the motor becasue my friends both just shipped their engines out a little while ago wiht the piston and sleeves needing to be redone and they came back all nice and new.

I'd print out that rebuild manual you linked yesterday, bforum, and get a new piston, sleeve and conrod.

RCBoyz has 'em on eBay:

Tower has 'em in stock:

Here's another good tip:

Just remember the sleeve has to come out before the conrod comes off the crank.
