Hi i have a new savage just got it for x-mas....i have run in once for about 2-3 tanks......Ona day i tried starting the car and the shaft would not turn...i have allready tryed turning the car over and doing all of that for fluding perpuses but it still wouldnt turn....now i have no clue what to do...please help me with what i should do next

Here are two things to check out:

Does the roto-start spin when it's not in the engine? Maybe your battery is going dead.

Check your piston to make sure it is not stuck at the top of the cylinder? If it is, then simply turn the flywheel to "unstick" the piston head.

Also, if the rotostart works and when you put it in the backplate, does the rotostart still spin, yet nothing happens? If so, then you probably blew out your one-way bearing.

Let us know what you find.

Sometimes a new engine can be very hard to turn over and the Roto Starter may not be able to turn over the engine because the compression is too high, of there is too much pinch. With my Wasp .28 and piston got stuck a few times during break in and I had to take out the engine and get it un-stuck by turning the flywheel with pliers. This should get it un-stuck. When you are going to start your engine heat it up with a hiar dryer, this helps it to start. Also check all of the things Digital Liquid posted too. Good luck, and welcome to RCNT!
 
Yeah i think my engine is not spining because....on the roro start it says do not hold down starter for more then 5 or 7 seconds....i dont know but if u do it for lets say 7 seconds and then stop and then try it again would that cause the enigine to fluid....Another person told me that the gas left over night in the car from the day i was trying to start it the it could of turned into water and rusted the instide of the engine so I'm probly going to take of the engine and bring ito a hobbie shop but i try what u said to do digital liquid and it didnt work...so i dont know if there is any more sugestions for me but thanks with the help
 
Have you tried to remove the glow plug and then run the roto starter for 7 seconds to unflood it (while covering the cooling head with a cloth), and then attach the glow plug (and the little ring) and try to start it then?

Another ting, did you watch the DVD? I thought it was some commercial stuff, but it turned out to have lots of helpful info for the beginners on it - very useful.
 
Check the battery and also instead of trying to turn the engine over by hand heat the engine first. If U break it loose without heating it U run the ricsk of scoring the cylinder
 
Take Out Your Glo Plug Drop In A Little After Burn Oil Then Try Cranking It Without The Glo Plug In
 
Thanks for all the help guys...I'm so happy my engine didnt have any serious problems but now finaly my truck is runing great with some new hop ups...just one more question....what are some really good hop ups that i should look into to make my truck faster!!thanks
 
Yes, if you want more speed your going to have to go with a new engine. You may not want to do this right now, since you just got your engine running but in the future you may want to. If you ever do the Wasp .28 is an amazing engine, it has incredible power and will make your truck do wheelies.

Another Hop up I would suggest would be HPI's cam-type servo saver. It'll make your truck have a tighter turing radius and handle much better overall.
 
jus one more thing, if you leave gas in your engine for jus one night, it wont rust that quick. I've left gas in my engine for at least 5-6 months once(didnt have any mula to fix a few parts lol) and it started up pretty quick when i tried to start it. so it takes a WHILE to have your gas in the engine rust.

As far as looking for more speed, it's just been broken in. Proper tuning will give you some very impressive speed, but not in these temps. I see you're in New Jersey. It's too cold right now to get any descent power out of anything. Once the engine is completely broken in, and the outside temp is good, and your carb is tweaked for performance, just a different spur or CB will give you more than you can handle.
 
I'm in NH but I find that you can get good performance out of an engine when its cold out. It is harder to get a good tune but when you do the performance is just about as good as in the summer. Once it gets below 30 F thats a little too cold though.
