Hi,
I just put together a nitro TC3 and i dont hear the car shifting into 2nd gear. I've put together a few cars before but never with a second gear. Went through the break in procedure already.

Not sure what to look for, when i take it apart. Any suggestions? Thanks.

here's what to do...tighten down the screws for the 2nd gear. Tighten them all the way down until they won't go down anymore. But watch out, you can strip out the cluch.

Then give it about 3 turns out. Make sure both screws have been given the same amount of turns.

That'll be a good start. It it still doesn't shift, keep giving it a half a turn out each time until it does.

What engine are u using? for the most part - the NTC3 2speed is pretty easy to hear shift - but MUCH EASIER to hear when u dont use full throttle. Tighten both screws (make sure u are tightening the right ones, its the screws that go in at an angle, the black ones) all the way, then back out both to 2 turns. acclerate at about 70% throttle, and listen for the shift. if it isnt shifting, then open the screws 1/8 at a time, they are very sensitive. again, try this at 70% throttle or so, as the car is much easier to see and hear shift this way.

I'm using an O.S.12TR slide carb/rear exhaust. I'll try it but if the springs were damaged would that keep it from shifting? Thanks again

If the springs are defective, then that's probably the problem. Just replace them and it should work out.

BTW, how are they defective?

Dont think they were defective, he may have just screwed the screw in too tight when he first put it together or when he was trying to get it to shift. There's a chance you can damage the springs by tightening it too much.

your engine may also be to rich ... if its too rich it wont get turning fast enough to force the clutch into shifting. ... try adjusting the tranny screws a bit first, but if that doesn't work try the engine (unless its already running real good... then dont touch it)

see how it handles first on what ever track u run at. Mine was way to spin happy powering out of turns so i left mine in 2nd gear so i didnt have much torque since i was on a twisty track. that shaft is just to responsive esp. with a high power motor.
