I replaced the steering servo on my savage. I used a hi tec hs-645MG. My lhs said I didnt need a digital one for the price differende I agreed. But anyway I installed it and got it working great. Used about 4 tanks and it quit steering. upon inspection noticed that the screw in the plastic piece that screws onto the servo I think it might be called the bell. not sure. I used the red one supplied with the servo. Now the inside of the plastic gear is stripped what should I replace this piece with. I looked at tower hobbies and not sure. I have heard of a servo saver but not sure what they are but kind of implied on what they do. Any help would be great. A cheap fix would e nice. Matt

The servo saver is the round plastic part that screws onto the top of the servo, it should have been on the stock servo. Look on page 38 step 38 of the Savage Manual . It is to prevent the part that sticks out of the servo from gettin stripped.

what kind of servos are the best for a Savage 21 but not to expensive
steering and throttle

Define too expensive...

The HiTec servo mentioned in this thread is a great steering servo. The stock throttle servo should do just fine.

If you want a really good steering servo try the digital version of the HiTec servo mentioned above. It is the HS-5645MG. This link has some good info on it:

It usually runs around $60. You will need a stronger servo saver. The Kimbrough mentioned above is a great one to use.

what is a good steering servo for a Savage 21 for under 50 bucks somewhere around the 30 -40's:D

And what you have in your throttle servo spot is waaaaayyy overkill. :D

S9303 on steering too. But get this, at the not-so-LHS I get my fuel from, the store keep swore up and down that HPI told him that the reverse module (here's the good part) requires a HIGH torque $150 servo to properly operate. This was going into a setup for a guy that had way too much money and way too little sense. I couldn't convine him otherwise, I even showed him my truck and he still said it needed the "recommended" servo. I just shook my head, baught my fuel and left. One last note, that truck with the $150 shifting servo NEVER saw, or will see, any dirt. It was 2 months old when I saw it and it looked like it just came out of the box. Sad, I cried all the way home, poor savage.... Born to bash, doomed to a boring putt-putt life....

if you want to save money after you upgrade your steering servo put stock steering servo in its place it has more power.

Hi Tec HS-645MG

I have had this servo in my savage 25 for sometime. I noticed that the steering was not acting corectly so I proceeded to tear into the servo. After looking I found a striped brass gear. Tower Hobbies had the gear but didnt have the bearings for it. Dose anyone know who sells the bearings?
