Hi I live in the worcestershire area and am having trouble with my savage 25, is there anywhere/anybody in the area that I can take it to to get it fixed and given a once over to check all is well. It is sheering the teeth from the spur gear, I was just going to replace with an metal one but after reading some of these threads I realise I may just break something else. Thanks Scott

You just need to set your mesh. Replace the spur gear, loosen the engine mounts and make sure the clutch bell is snug with the spur gear. One method is to put a strip of paper between the gears, and when you pull it out, it should be creased in a zig zag pattern, with no rips. Another method is to rotate the spur gear, making sure it's snug, with a tight spot every revolution.

Don't get a steel spur until you are used to changing it and setting it, and if you do get a steel spur, you have to get a hardened clutch bell with it.

Before putting a new spur on it,check your engine mount and plate for cracks. They are prone to cracking(usually the plate) and this will allow for flex when driving. Then make sure there is nothing else in the driveline dragging or creating extra resistance to stress shear the spur gear. Then if all is well, put on the new gear and properly set the mesh(described above) and make sure the engine mount screws are tight(use blue service removable thread locker on the screws).
