Help! Engine won't start - I think I know the problem.

Hi,
I got my hands on a HPI Trophy 3.5v2 today. I got about 1/4 through the first tank and then it quit. It now will not start. I think the problem may be that there is an oil glaze on the carb (if I remove the air filter, there is an oily glaze over the sliding piece of metal. I fear this may be clogging the engine up? The reason for the oil being in there is that when I got the car, the carb was very sticky (even at factory settings) so when I opened the throttle, it would sometimes not move. A guy on another forum said to drop some oil in there, so I did. Yes, it solved my problem but now I feel like a fool!

Is this likely to be the problem? If so, how do I get all of this oil out?

What kind of oil? You may just have to pull the carb to clean it out.

Well then, what kind of an answer did he get? I'm guessing it must have been some kind of fish oil.

If he got it from another RC site, it's probably snake oil.

of course you would have checked that the oil didn't burn out the glow plug.
