Hi,

For the hell of it I'm going to see how much speed i can get out of my RS4 3 SS. I know its not the fastest chassis around and doesn't have the toughest tranny around either, but I'm comfortable with it and know it pretty well, and have grown bored with the 18ss engine in it.

The two engines I'm looking at are

1) EB modified OS 18TZ http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXLNF9&P=0

2) EB modified OS 12 TZ 5 port http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXLNF8&P=0

I have searched an read about the 18tz in touring cars, and I have, as much as I can, hardened everything i can, and am thinking of trying to put super rs4 wheels on if i got it. The 12 will most probably without a doubt have more rpm than the 18, but I am concerned about it being able to pull the taller ratios, but it would have a more usable power band. I have the suitable mounts to mount the SG shaft, and have a RS4 3 centax clutch on the way to.

I've heard the 12tz is scary crazy fast!! Aint the Super Rs4's have the 2.2's? I had some 2.2's that I got with my Rs4 3 when I bought it and they rubbed a lil bit. wasn't nothing major just enough to annoy me. And I didnt like having to hack the poop out of my bodys for them to fit.. Let us know what ya decide though. With either of them mills, its gonna scoot!

I'm currently leaning towards the 12tz, would the 18tz give any worthwhile and usuable performance increases, I say usuable because i know the 18 has more torque and hp but is that going to make a difference at all?

ok,

Having had the centax kit on my nitro3, i'll tell you this...you're not going to be gettting the speed your looking for with the centax on it as the gears on it are the standard 18/22 tooth and are not interchangalbe (hotbodies made it a 1-off kit....doensn't make any sense if you're going for something with better gearing like the 19/23 tooth cb)....i'd go with somthing like a 18/23 cb. use the 18 1st gear so you won't have too much trouble on first gear...the 23 once the power kicks in. Then, match that to something like a 43/39 spur set...with the 12 matched to that, you should have anough power to pull through the band w/o any problems. It's what's on the HPI team setup for that car so it should run fine....

Also, instead of the centax, try using the mip or hpi racing clutch...it is somewhat adjustable and should be more than enough for your car. i purchased all of the needed items from wpr to get a nice little sg setup with the adjustable mounts and the centax....but it got boring quick so i went back to the old style but upgraded....just trying to tell you before you spend the 100's and get bored/mad/disappointed

...good luck thogh..(oh, and try looking at what others with nitro3's have in their rides as you don't want to get somthing that will make the car uncontrollable...i.e: the modified 18tz)
