ok, when I run my t-maxx for a while I will shut it down and a good amount of smoke is coming off of it. It definately isnt steam. Anyways I did get grease and oil on it but I cleaned most of it off. What else could be the problem?

Also what is the factory settting for the needle your NOT suposed to touch not the LSN or HSN.

If the head was smoking it must've been overheating. Did it have a smell of burning paint? What was the temp?

um.... Like Diver Said What Temp Were You Running It At. My Hyper 21 Turbo Did something Similar It Turned Out My Glow Plug was too loose. check that. How Long Were You Running It too. Does It Do It Everytime you Drive It? Or You Just Seen It Before?

Hope I Was Of Help...

I'm not sure of the temp...I dont have a temp gun....my neighbor does though I'll check next time. It's been smoking everytime I finish running it but I always run it for 5-15 minutes.

YOU NEED A TEMP GUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
a friend of mine didn't have one and he was tuning for smoke and sound, and performance.... he was running about 350 ish a little warm look at that asap!

Dude You Should Get The Venom Temp Monitor. Thats What I Use In My Savage. Really Easy To Use. Only Like 20 Dollars. I Have A temp Gun Too. But You Just Drive Your Car Up And Look At What The VTM Says And Thats It.

I'll probably buy one off ebay this week. I ran it toay at my friends new land. It was running better(no smoking) but bogged after a while....I think it was getting to hot so I richened it and it lasted longer. I was hitting a 2 foot dirt jump with a 6 inch lip and getting pretty nice air....First time I've jumped it.

Well In Mn lately I've been having to retune my truck pretty drastically because of the heat and humidity, and being like 90 during the day and 60 at night, so I'm sure thats playing a part for ya. But yeah, a temp gun should get ya tuned in nicely and not make it smoke or bog anymore.

ya, the humidity is rediculous the week before last was all 90 deg. and it was rediculous the last week it was in 70's and osme 80's this week it is all over

We all need the cash to graduate to fifth-scale vehicles with weed-whacker gas-oil engines.

Tuning? What's that?

if the engine is getting too hot I need to richen it correct?

You dont NEED a temp gun, its just nice to have... You can do the water drop test, or do the old stick ur finger on the head... There are other ways to tell the temp, they just may not be as accurate. When the head is smoking, it is usually too hot, unless in some cases you get fuel on there or somethin... It shouldnt be smoking.

get one of these! weather ur over heating or not keep track of ur temps...

did you seal off the backplate and carb? check for air leaks? clean the air filter? for some reason the 2.5r is hard to keep a tune and running cool even after thier broken in!

I FOUND THE PROBLEM YAY! the rubber piece thatholds the exhaust pipe to the engine is slightly ripped. so when it slides a little it will smoke from there and it looks like it's coming from the head. Anyways I ran my car in some grass (50 yards) a couple times and the head was around 325 could grass raise it that high? I went maybe a football field once every couple runs....Moving from the basketball courts to the baseball field and back.
I know its not to ean because it was spitting fuel.

whoa 325 even if the grass helped the temp. thats pretty high id watch out for that. and thats great that you found the problem have fun!

grass creates much more load on the engine.....you can't really tune for all running conditions...just the ones you are currently running on.....325 is way too high (obviously) you should start planning on getting a new piston/sleeve set or a new mill in your near future......if you have run the 2.5 that hot more than 2 or 3 times it's gonna blow on you soon....

do you have any air holes in the body to help get air flow over the motor?
or do you run with the body off ? if you are gonna run in grass or under a load all the time you might want to go down a tooth on your clutch. it will help your engine under those circumstances. the only cooling that engine gets is what air flows around it. i would richen it up untill it sputters on top end then start back down one click at a time and check the temp. you definately need to get the temp down if you want to keep the engine alive. i am not the greatest engine tuner but i hope this helps a little. :)
