You know, I know the HB brake kit has a serious problem of brake fade. But damnit, it can really get on my nerves. If I run my savage hard for like the first 2 minutes, even if I tap the brakes, the truck wants to flip. But then after the 2 minutes, seems like it really doesn't want to stop nearly as hard. I don't know if I need new brake pads or I just suck. But it pisses me off...not really, but it's annoying.
 
Hop-ups? Are they all as good as we are lead to beleive?
Take the aluminum skid plates, sure they are stronger than the factory plastic but the plastic at least bends and returns to the original shape unlike aluminum.
I have no problem with the stoch Savage brake and it is cheaper to replace than aftermarket stuff.

I can’t complain to much about the stock break setup myself they have lasted somewhere around 1.5 gallons with no problems and still going.
 
Well I can tell you, I had to replace my brake disc and you know what happened? Within one tank, I blew the new one. Completely. That's why I went with the HB.
 
I felt your pain Kwong. I had the stock brake disk up to the time when it got so hot it was bendable. When it cooled it was stiff again. Unfortunately it had screwed up the hex adapter.

Yeah, the HB disk gets fade, just like real cars, just don't use them as much or as hard. One thing I got that helps a bit if the GPM aluminum hex adapter. It's not only tougher, but it acts like a heat sink for the disk. Not a whole lot, but some. One other thing is to ocasionally rough up the disk with some 300 to 400 grit wet/dry sand paper. My disk was getting glazed and with the heat buildup it made the fade more noticable.
 
I can tell you that I have more weight on my savage than most people do. Do to the fact that I like the look of aluminum. The only thing I have had to do is tighten up the plastic nut on the end of the brake rod to adjust for the extra weight. I also bought an extra brake set up about 4 week after I bought my savage because everyone was saying that they are a pos and have had no use for the new one. what kind of metal is the hb brake made out of?
 
machined steel, 2 piece vented radially and cross drilled.
 
So what is happening is the brakes are heating up and causing it to fade right?

Is there a aluminum or titanium brake on the market?
 
Did you guys use the rubber cement on the disk like it says? what about the ca glue do u really need it? I have the break kit but it dont work for now so i took it off... i will find a way to put it on also my top screw keeps falling out of the trans.... i dont know why but it does.

The HB disk is steel, aluminum would wear too much.

I used CA on the pad/caliper, and it's still stuck. I think Pee Wee used JB Weld and has had real good results.

The top screw in the tranny for the caliper, use some loctite. But if the tranny hole is stripped, you might have to get a new tranny case set (not the whole thing, just the case, HPI part #85046).

Ya but if you used titanium or aluminum it would transfer the heat a lot better than steel would. Which would let it cool faster. More replacing but better stoping.
 
Tru dat. I'd just lay off the brake more and use the gas. Lowers the brake temp, and allows for more fuel acquisition in the long run.
 
my HB brake works good.. I've only had it for 3 days now... and tend to flip the truck or pull a Ruff Ryder move with the truck!!! so far so good for me...
