i am having problems with my 2.5 t maxx. i am new to the sport of course. i am going threy alot of glow plugs. it runs good from idle to about half throttle. if i nail the throttle it will die out and there goes the glow plug. i have the carb set to the factory settings of 4 turns out on the hsn and flush on the lsn. thanks for any help

That is stock settings and should be rich. You must have a pretty bad air leak somewhere causing you to run lean and burn plugs. Check all exhaust boots and fuel tank for leaks. The fuel lid is known to leak on tmaxx trucks. If no leaks are found you may need to re seal the engine. Search forum on topics on how to do so.

ok thank you for the help i cause i will start looking for leaks. if there is no leaks what else do you think it might be.

I would seal the engine up install new glow plug new fuel lines if there is still a problem its prob the fuel tank.

i did a air leak test on the motor and the fuel tank. i did not find a leak on eather one. i decided i will take the motor apart to reseal it anyways. since i had it apart i was gonna give it a complete cleaning since it probably has never been done. but long story short i found out the piston is broke at the bottom of it. it is broke at the left front radius as if you where faceing the front of the truck. so i guess i got two questions is that what is causeing all the problems. the second question is the piston suppose to make contact with the head. i am sure it is not suppose to but just thought i would ask. thanks again for the help

JC.. I have a T-maxx 2.5 myself & I change the fuel line in my MAXX each year & I am very careful around tank cap seal,, Making certain there is no dirt or objects are in the way & make I always have a good seal when refilling tank

no the piston wont actually make contact

ya the piston is broke you can see a jagged edge kinda to the left of the cut out a little bit. i am not 100% sure it is i just know if you have the sleve out of it and slide the piston in it then put the on top of it while it is apart it will push the piston down some.

If you can push the piston out of the top of the sleeve it is really worn out, I'm surprised it runs at all.

you can`t push it out of the top its stops just shy of going all the way threw. but i know eather way i need to rebuild it or put a new engine in.

If your running the 3.3 and wanting to stick with the 3.3. A new one can be had on ebay for like 90 dollars shipped with no carb you will just have to use your old carb.

no its got the 2.5 in it can i put the 3.3 in it. if so what do i all have to do to put the 3.3 in.

Yes a 3.3 is a straight drop in no mods needed with a properly adjusted slipper. And you could still get the 90 dollar 3.3 bc the 2.5 carb and 3.3 carb are the same.

will the axles and stuff hold up for the bigger motor. will the exhaust work or will i need a different one. if all i got to change is the motor then i am going to put a 3.3 in it instead.

Yea they will hold up with the slipper set right. I have mine locked down on my max and my rear didnt break for like 3 gallons of fuel. front is still in great condition. You will break driveline parts eventually but it cost like 20 bucks at most to replace front and rear driveshafts. and centers are cheap to rc best on ebay makes some decent upgrades to for cheap. but for your ? yes the stock drivline will be fine.

Also i have robinson racing hardened spur and clutchbell on my maxx locked down so thats the reason my rear drive line twisted and broke

ok thank you i think it is gonna get a 3.3 then. its only about 20 bucks more so why not get more power out of it. as the saying goes go big or go home.

well i pick up the 3.3 tomorrow. then it will be seal the motor and get it broke in. what is the best way to brake them in. i know that everybody has a different way but what is a good way for somebody that in new to it. i have broke in new motors on dirtbikes and quads but these rc cars are a new ball game.
