Guitar?

I'd like to say yes, but I have 2 guitars...and next to 0 skills on either of them. lol I have an Alvarez Acoustic and a Jay Turser Les Paul Copy with a digitec pedal setup and a Hartke 60W amp. I seem to sit and learn for a month or so at a time....but always get sucked into "life" and never really get into it too too much.

I hear ya Moto. If I can't sit around and play for 5-6 hours a day, I lose interest. Get sick of hearing myself play. Setup: Epiphone Black Beauty with an Emg Zack Wylde in the bridge, Floyd Rose tremolo, Randall Warhead Dimebag with a 4x12 and a 2x15 cab. All collecting dust in the attic.:)

Just bought a new Ibanez EW20-ASENT electric/acoustic. Also have an old-school Charvel 475. It's pretty cool because the Charvel badge doesn't exist any more. But it's almost exactly the same as a lot of the new Jacksons. I'm also going to be in the market for a Strat soon because I so want a classic rock guitar. As for my amp, I just started playing again after a 15 year absence so I'm still using my Fender Princeton Chorus with ART Multiverb Alpha 2.0 and X-15 Midi foot controller. But I'm about to put the amp and effects on Craigslist because I'm very interested in getting something in the Line 6 Spider IV amp line.

I would LOVE to play guitar! But, I can't get myself to practice with one of those beginner books, so I dont practice at all.

All you need is a little success. You'd be amazed at how many songs out there are only like 3 chords. Once you get a few good songs under your belt you will be far more encouraged to learn more songs and more techniques. I'm self-taught. And by no means great. But learned enough to hold my own in a band and had tons of fun doing it. Just gotta start small.

I have a Breather O-two air guitar that I haven't seen since I moved. If only I had put it back in its case.

I might try to pick it back up this winter and see how I can do. I'm sure your right, learing a few cords has got to be the start of alot of fun!

Yup, I was just listening to "She" by Greenday while in the car. 3 chords. But a cool song to play.

Would an electric be more fun to learn on? Maybe give more fun making it more likely to practice....? Mines an acoustic.

I'm with your SNG - I'd love to learn how to play guitar but don't have a music bone in me or know how to read any kind of music notes. Always thought it would be neat but never went any further than that.

I suck at Guitar Hero so playing a real one is out of the question. LOL

Reading Music is pretty easy once you get into it Woodie. I thought the same thing before I picked up some beginner books. Now....not so bad at reading it. I started by taking the beginner songs/riffs and writing in the note above the musical notation, and after awhile..I didn't need to write them anymore ;-)

I tried guitar for a couple months, but didnt really click with it. It may come as a surprise to many of yall here, but i have been a concert pianist since i was around 11 years old. Played formally from 9years old until about 19. Had to slow down with it when i went to the academy, but i went to my parents and sat down at my old baby grand piano a couple weeks ago, and just fell back in to it. can't wait till i get a place big enough to bring it home.

Thats sweet Alpine. I like piano as well...can't play it though. Can you play the theme from The Office? That would be cool lol.

Whats a good size of electric guitar in general? 42"?

Never tried it, but if i had a copy of it, and 30 minutes, i could have it down. It seems very simple.

This chick gives me chills. Gona be the first piece i learn when i get back into it.

Sorry to thread jack OP.

What do I like to play? Just about everything. I like metal, thrash, funk, jazz, pop, rock (aka Rawk), soul and yes I have played country. Primary instrument has been the Electric Bass guitar. No, fish do not come in bass guitar form lol. I have primarily played classic rock, hair metal, country, funk, blues and some jazz though I am alright with charts but major changing into odd time rhythms off the fly right now don't hit me right some times. Especially when they shift back and forth from one to the other. As for gear: 1 Warwick bolt on streamer 4 string bass from 90's, 1 electric charvel made in the USA, 1 Yamaha classical acoustic guitar and 1 steal string Yamaha acoustic guitar. As for the odd stuff, I have a 1995 or 96 Kerzweil PC 88 keyboard that has served more like a shelf as of late. As for the amps go... it sux now. I have a little Kustom keyboard amp I use for practice now. Not going to go into what I use to have... I would cry. For effect: Line 6 bass modual that shot it's wad and an old RP7 guitar affect pedal. Yeah, I still fart around with the stuff. :D

BTW, you want to see a cool metalica cover? Screw the guitars just vocals and drums. I thought this was some kind of spoof but these guys are really serious. Please check other covers they have done.

Dang, Alpine. I'm impressed. Don't EVER leave it for more than a year at a time. Growing up, I took 2 years of violin, 4 years of saxophone, 6 guitar lessons and 2 years of piano.
I forgot it all.
I invested, piece by piece, and now have 2 keyboards along with the mixer and amps and the MIDI computer programs. When I got the first keyboard about 15 years ago, I set it up, hit middle C, then said, "Okay. Now what?"
Today I have quite a selection of songs I can play, along with about 20 that I wrote myself. Just the music, no lyrics.
Whenever I sit down at the keys, I'm usually there for hours at a time. I couldn't be without it.

Now that's where it's at. Especially when you are playing your own stuff. I don't know how many keyboardist I have met that can play the most amazing classical songs and cover songs but when you ask them "hey, what have you made up on your own?" they have a look on their faces as if you just yanked their fingers off of their hands.
