Hey guys,

I am running the HPI 3-speed tranny and don't want to go through all the trouble of taking the diff apart to adjust the second gear. To help make this easier, I wanted to make sure that I get my settings somewhere around the ballpark. Is there like some kind of mathematical equation that can help me figure out how many turns I should set it to? I think I remember seeing one but I wasn't sure if it was for the 3rd speed or 2nd speed. The manual's recommended settings are for the gearing of 15/49 and 19/47. My gearing is 18/47 and the manual does not say. I also know that the wheels I have can also affect the settings, but for right now I just need a ballpark setting. If anyone can help me, I'd be grateful. Thanks!

However, if you are changing your gearing (spur/cb), you may want to wait until you run it before you adjust the shift point as it will change as well. Going with a larger spur will lower your top speed which will have the same effect on the two speed as adjusting it to shift later.

So basically a smaller spur should cause the 2nd gear shift point to be earlier.

Oh sorry, I reread your question, I sugguest playing around with the three speed shift point and see how much a turn will affect it, then go back and apply that to the 2nd gear. I never tried it, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

I wouldn't get to third gear if I don't shift into second. That's why I needed a base setting to start from. I am thinking 19/47 would be my closest bet.
