So I made a miscalculation in turning radius and slammed the front end into a curb. I broke a control arm and a bulkhead in the process.

After I put it back together it started making a ticking noise, fairly loud. After applying a sufficient amount of throttle, the ticking went away and the car began to make an awful sound like a nylon gear being stripped. Now the car won't move. :whhooo:

Any guesses on what I did and the best place for me to start looking for the culprit. I'm assuming differential or trans but was hoping someone else might have some words of wisdom.

Thanks in advance.

Nope, sounds like you made a fair assessment. If the ticking noise was near the front or rear, check the appropriate diff for damages. Otherwise, check the tranny. You might check the spur gear (obvious I know but a good place to start none-rhe-less).

also i would check the things inbetween your a-arms, the bar that spins. make sure that they are all hooked up and are workin. i was out the other day and mine was not on right and it would not move and it made a funny sound.

My guess is:

I reckon you've busted the transmission primary drive gear. This is not uncommon in heavy front-end impacts.
Here's a good example of just how fragile they are.

The tranmission is simple to disassemble, so it shouldn't be a problem to remove it, open it up and take a look.

Well, here's what I have so far...

Yes, the 72 tooth gear was stripped and I thought that would be a relatively easy fix. Not so.

After I fixed that I noticed that there was no drag on the trans input shaft that the gear affixes to. Just to be sure, I hooked the trans to an electric drill and voila - no movement from the output gear.

I took it apart and looked at it. Everything APPEARS to be OK inside, but obviously its not. There were no stripped gears, so I can't imagine what's wrong. Anyone have any ideas.

Otherwise its back to the HS for some more abuse.....

No drag on transmission

That's notnhing unusual.
If you spin the spur gear (72 tooth) it should spin quite freely.
There will be no output to the drive shafts, unless you have a forward only conversion, which I doubt.

Mondo -

That sort of explains what is going on (since my other Tmaxx is a forward only conversion).

However, I can't figure out how the truck will now propel itself forward since I can't get the output shafts to spin, even using an electric drill to power the input shaft........

Any other ideas on what, if anything, is wrong with my tranny?

It will take quite a bit more RPM's than an electric drill to engage the clutch in the tranny gear. With a FOC, the clutch is eliminated and spinning the spur will indeed move the vehicle forward.

Thanks ImBroken,

You seem to have hit the nail on the head. At least, what you have said is in agreement with the local HS guru. He said fuhgeddaboutit and it should work fine.

As the winner, you are entitled to one free set of A-arms, slightly used, from a .15 Tmaxx. Please advise as to wjhere you would like them shipped.

Glad I could be of help... Thanks for the offering, but I already have like 2 sets of stock arms... I use RPM now.
